Quote from: Blowitupref on March 26, 2025, 09:10:54 PMResults one sided matches and one draw

Monaghan 1-10 Cavan 0-13
Tyrone 6-26 Fermanagh 0-6
Armagh 0-13 Derry 2-24
Antrim 0-2 Donegal 3-23

Not totally unusual in this competition. Even without 2 pointers Tyrone beat Monaghan by 27 points last year in the round robin, but only won by a point in the semi-final. Mind you, Antrim scored at least 3 last year.

Was this not considered an 'ok' Antrim team?

GAA Discussion / Re: County Manager Merry go round

Quote from: Blowitupref on March 26, 2025, 09:52:05 PMCarlow GAA has confirmed that Shane Curran has stepped down as Carlow senior football manager.

The former Roscommon goalkeeper was appointed last August but has stepped down after guiding Carlow to fourth place in Division Four.

Carlow had won their last two league games against Longford and London but they will now be searching for a new manager.

Carlow are set to face Meath in the opening round of the Leinster Championship on Sunday, April 6th.

In a statement Carlow GAA noted: "Shane Curran has informed Carlow GAA that he and his backroom team are stepping away from the management of the Carlow senior football team with immediate effect. The decision was based on player related issues which he believed were beyond the scope of the management team.

"Carlow GAA is in the process of looking for an interim senior football manager for the championship season."

What's the back story there?

Is he hard to work with?

You'd think he'd have stayed on for the championship.

Quote from: balladmaker on March 25, 2025, 11:28:54 AMWhy the early throw in at 12:30pm, it's not exactly a Celtic v Rangers scenario.

Armagh LGFA in league final later that day, to allow supporters to go to both games

At least, a bit of common sense.

Ulster Council has had a lot of bad PR this past few years between this and the Casement Park mess.

It happened in Clare a few months back also iirc.

One for the wtf thread!
With 7 minutes to play Mayo was 7th in the table on course for relegation. By full time Mayo with the help of a penalty save and the crossbar ended up topping the table.  HQ are fools for not making more of this competition.

I agree. League is a great competition but poorly marketed by the GAA.

TG4 promotions of the games today was top class. Excellent production.

Quote from: Easttyrone23 on March 23, 2025, 06:20:30 AMI wonder if Poacher was being paid per game would he have made the same decision. He probably thought if he played a weakened team and got hammered it may look bad on him and effect his chances of getting a better job after Leitrim. There's a reason he can't get a job in Ulster, the bookmakers in Leitrim would understand.

Has he a 2 year or 3 year 'contract' with Leitrim?

Do the GAA hammer Leitrim CB for not fielding a team - as in a big fine to set an example to other teams.

League is a great competition but recently it's changing. Poacher not fielding with Leitrim and other teams not wanting to get to the finals.

All very strange.

I'd try and get to the final and win it. Then get set for championship. I think a week is plenty of time.

Obviously 2 weeks would be better but a  week is grand. They know who they're playing months out and I'd be surprised that teams aren't working on their tactics for that game a bit every week also.

The most important thing is their recovery between games.

OMG.

There we have it. A player who's just been voted one the top 15 club hurlers in Ireland...and you say he's too small.

What a stupid comment.

He plays football the same way he plays hurling.

Fionn Mc Eldowney is on the club hurling team of the year announced today. Some achievment.

Some people on here thinking he's not good to be starting on the Derry senior team.

A fantastic player at both codes.

Would club teams gave enough for a single year group i.e. an U11 team and an U12 team etc.?

Maybe in city and bigger country clubs but hard to sustain.

Maybe they have to pay a deposit to keep it over the summer for the following academic year.

Does each county pick their U20 panel differently?

Trials or just ask 35 lads onto the panel?

Galway and Donegal looking to be avoiding final

Tyrone needs the points and should edge the dubs.

we could more than likely have a kerry and mayo final.

Galway 7/5

Dublin 15/8

Mayo 9/2

Donegal 6/1

Kerry 11/1

Would Mayo not want to be avoiding the league final more than Galway.

I know Galway have to travel to New York the week after but Mayo have a potentially tricky tie v Sligo the same weekend.

Has there been research done into output of a championship game V a national league game?

By that I mean, intensity, sprints and meters covered etc. Just to compare the 2.

I mean being at some championship games this past few years, they were as dead as league games. Maybe because of the type of football i.e. lateral passing from one side to the other and it didn't seen too intense.

I'm just wondering why teams are avoiding getting to and winning the league final.

He wants to raise standards and says things were done a certain way in the past.

Standards were so low that Leitrim actually won games. He's brought in new ones.

The sad thing is that when Leitrim inevitably run him out of town there will be probably more than one club interested in hiring him on.

Stephen obviously never heard the saying "Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt."

This definately hasn't helped him.

But as you say, there'll be plenty of clubs seekjng him out instead of investing in their youth set ups.

First point is Nursery:

Make it a point at the meeting at the start of year that 1 parent must stay with their child at each training session. No excuses.  All station based stuff. Hold a hula hoop or throw a ball. All simple stuff.

If a parent doesn't stay, take their child home with them. Zero tolerence. It's only for an hour. You're not a baby-sitting service. Lay it on the line.

You could get 8 future coaches out of this each year.

Paddy Tally in it for the long haul it seems.

"We're trying to rebuild something here, it's going to take a bit of time."
