Opposition accused of smearing Govt reputation
Saturday, 24 April 2010 14:38
Tánaiste Mary Coughlan has accused the Opposition of 'unjustified and disingenous' attempts to smear the Government's reputation.

Addressing a Fianna Fáil conference in Galway, Mary Coughlan said the backbiting from the Opposition has progressed to new lows, singling out Labour leader Eamon Gilmore's allegation that Taoiseach Brian Cowen was guilty of treason.

The Tánaiste said it was time to say enough is enough, asking if anyone really believed that Fianna Fáil ministers were 'in some way corrupt or beholden to banks or developers'.

She said the Government was making extremely difficult decisions that they believed were in the best long-term interests of the country, and it was time for the Opposition to 'grow up and start playing the ball, not the man'.
