Finished with a very young team, a lot of u-21's. In terms of the younger players, daly has a bit about him but needs a bit of coaching and building up. Moore is very accurate but is still very light as would be expected at this stage, very good player. Nerney was solid in the backs. Ambrose Doran finished very strong kicking 3 points in the second half. It was older players that pushed it on.

easy enough to analyse that, we lost to a team that wanted it more. they weren't much better than us as both teams were awful but we kept them in the game with our constant fouling and stupid mistakes something we did all through the league. i thought we would win, keep them at arms length and scrap through but when the surge came on despite our massed defence they still found space to overlap and kick the winning score.

i didn't think our system was too bad at times yesterday in the first half, we cut out a huge amount of ball but over elaborated by playing 2/3 sweepers in the second half and inviting them onto us. With the ball not sticking in the forwards and a number of players not wanting to know about it or running out of gas the defence was under massive pressure. playing kieran Lillis as a sweeper was disaster as he didn't have the pace to cover the spaces and gave away three frees which they scored from. we needed both wing backs to push up and support the forwards but strong looked out on his feet after he scored his point and was awful before he was black carded and begley and Damian o connor just never got in it. Meaney and Begley who should have been leaders both were taken off. Clare's only forward on the wing also kicked three points from play. full back line especially attride who was everywhere played well. we probably should have kicked long to midfield more and trusted them instead of short kickouts which we turned over when they pressed up. midfield then disappeared in the last ten minutes. forwards were a mess. We simply didn't play enough up in the first half when we had the elements and there was no pace. meredith was the best while the rest were very poor. donie had a shocker and hasn't the pace or bite to be the front man. Evan o carroll was missed here. Subs added nothing but i thought Ross and Gary should have been earlier. We missed a lot of scorable frees but given that we used 6 different kickers understandable. Gary Walsh's deplorable effort at the end summed up the day.

i don't where we are going, the age profile of the team and the poorness of the panel and what is coming through gives you the feeling that there is greater chance of us going down down to division 4 than getting back to division 2. i hope the minors win but they are going to be up against it. in reality its going to be a long time before we are anyway competitive.

really poor performance, one of the poorest in the last few years. dublin far stronger physically and far slicker in their hurling even though they are no world beaters. even allowing for this the general poor execution of the basic skills was a surprise, first touch throughout the field was awful . i generally thought we had a chance considering it was our third game and dublin are not playing their dual players, but it was awful stuff. tactics such as leaving our centre back marking space didn't help either.

From early on it was obvious we were not going to win, first touch was non existant allowing numerous rucks where the bigger dubs horsed us off the ball and we seemed to have no one bar comerford who could actually field a ball above their heads. ill discipline and a very fussy referee allowed dublin a lot of frees to settle them down and we really never troubled them. no one bar geaney and the keeper who couldn't be faulted were up to the task. the two injured guys and the missing phelans were a big loss but it still would be a big ask. a lot of our trumpeted players were found out.

i hope the u-21's are better prepared.

looking at the kildare forum, and while taking into account their blind hatred of us, it appears the current set up is extremely poor

really need to shore up the backs at the moment, if we are going to come through against kerry. There is a serious lack of pace and at times intensity in marking. kerry have scored goals which we hasn't and i would really think of dropping a man back. to me darren maher despite his great heart has not got the pace for corner back and was exposed a few times. have to cut down on the fouling. half back line were poor at times today, the no. 10 and 20 got 8 points between them from play and matthew only got going in the second half after been at sea in the first. he should have been closer to chin at the end.

i would really differ in the opinion on cha. despite his great effort he drives me mad at times. he had five wides all of which would have been great scores if they come off, but he does this in most games. He is a wide shooter.  ln the end he got blocked down twice and gave away numerous cheap frees. i would love for him to take a second and bring others into the game.

Adams just said on Claire Byrne that he believed that the state was involved in the murders in the north, what a comment to drop

Cillian O'CONNOR found out today. Can kick frees from anywhere, but in open  play not a real top class forward. Mayo forwards in the 2nd half were as rubbish as they were the 1st day. Only difference no ref to give them easy frees. Once dubs stopped fouling Mayo forwards shown up for the poor finishers they are. Dubs subs made a huge difference. McManamon with another moment of magic. Mayo didn't have a forward who could do the same.

That would cillian o Connor who scored the same as brogan from play???

You wonder what it will take for Bryan Sheehan to get booked, persistent fouling

I would take the u-21's off him, we have been extremely poor at that grade for the last two years.

Still sick after the result, two years in a row knocked out by lower division teams. Age profile of the team not great either. Under age has been very poor to average at best. I think the worst is to come.
