I wouldn't be an advocate for the death penalty in general but after hearing about that Andrew Innes chap I think there needs to be a harsher punishment than 36 years at the tax-payers pleasure.

Can't do that.. the fact that they made so few keeps it running and running.. He was asked one time why they didn't make anymore and he said he was exhausted and they had taken it to its peak, or words similar

Well he can't ruin what already exists.

Could work. Basil was angry at the changing world in the 70s and how he felt he wasn't getting his due. That attitude is around, on steroids, this last decade.

maybe the conman Irish builder is still ok but the rest of the comedy won't survive in today's world
