Gaelic football was so exciting 20 odd years ago! Great to watch, the back door brought in novel pairings. I could count 20+ counties 20 years ago that had something to play for in the Championship. I could count 5 this year! It's so dead anymore.

Most of my comments on here anymore are about Liverpool, Celtic and the FAI.

AZOffaly been gone a couple of years now.

Intelligent, thoughtful contributor. Could use a few more like him.

Has he?  I thought recently I hadn't seen him in a while but just assumed he was on other threads

AZOffaly posted a great collection of short stories based around a Ferbane footballer, must be 15 years ago. That hooked me on gaaboard.

Lar Naparka not seen round these parts since last October

Sadly it seems Lar or Eamon passed on late last year. He revealed his name a few years back when he told us about a book he had written https://www.mayonews.ie/living/31943-raised-on-songs-and-stories-eamonn-henry

Lar was one of the most prolific posters here and was always ready for a "debate" and his passion for all things Mayo and particularly their footballers was never in doubt. He had his own style that came from his rural background where the art of story telling was as important as the story. I came accross this link to a website he used to run.

https://www.mayogodhelpus.com/history/me.html

When I saw his name included in the missing posters I looked him up only to doscover he died late last year.

https://rip.ie/death-notice/francis-eamon-henry-donnycarney-dublin/477333

I never knew Lar or met him but I feel that those of us who drop in here have lost a colleague that we feel we knew, And something poignant in that he died shortly after Mayo lost another AI and he went to his grave without seeing his beloved county win an AI.

RIP Lar - we will remember you. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h'anam dílis'

That's really sad news. A passionate poster who will be missed.

RIP Lar Naparka/ Eamon.
