My definition of "talking sh1te" is when someone expresses a fanciful opinion (or somesuch).

Making something up and presenting it as an actual occurrence is something else entirely.

P.S. I like your qualification of "if true". I suppose it is possible that the Sunday Life might be the ones making it all up, in which case I look forward to legal proceedings against them from Mr. Adams. I mean to say, nothing could save them in such a case, except, a recording of the ahem, alleged radio interview and how likely is that to exist? Otherwise, they'd have to rely on sworn testimony from the station staff, or from any one of a couple of million-odd Dubliners who might conceivably have tuned in to the programme...
