Anybody notice the very far right column?

Blind/Deaf/Dumb/Imbecile/Idiot/Lunatic etc. Mad that only a couple of generations back how much it would have been even harder for families with children with special needs, due to a complete lack of understanding and research.  Technology may have brought many problems + evils but it has helped us to understand so much more than was possible only a couple of generations back.

That is fantastic news for Kilclief.  Our full back gets married on Saturday 12th.  We were convinced we'd get a Saturday fixture!!

Yes,and it frees the lads up for the Bobby Dalzell fixture on the Saturday ;)

I wonder if she'll let him play the night before the wedding...she'd be fairly givin out if he got injured! ::)

Census info is "locked" for 100 years in the North and 75 years in the south.  There was no Census in 1921 due to the political situation in Ireland, in the North the 1931 Census was destroyed during WW2 and there was no Census in 1941 due to the war.  So the next Census for the north is 1951.

So there's no access to the 1951 census until around 2050. That's disappointing!

Are there any links to any later censuses, say around the 1950s? Obviously with partition it mightn't be an all ireland cesus!

Found my grandfather who was aged 10 at time of census.  Interesting to see the number of infant deaths.  In his family his parents had 4 children born alive but only 2 remained, my grandfather and his brother.

This programme is the biggest pile of shite I've seen in a long time.

It should go into the WTF thread.

Wild Boring and very much hypothetical with little fact!  All it's doin is portrayin Lynch as not a very strong character who needed everyone's approval!  Maybe it's the crap reconstructions but the guy who is playin Lynch constantly looks like he's petrified.  Tough times needed strong, assertive men, this programme isn't really portraying him as such.  Even choosing Newry to head for and not Derry was weak, they could run away from newry a lot quicker.

I did the croke park tour over the summer and the guide told us that the pitch invasions at end of AI finals is the same as playing 6 games on the pitch!

That doesnt seem to be a deterent for all these nationalists we're being told have already joined.

It would be a reason why many more haven't joined.  Areas such as south armagh and west belfast I would imagine recruitment would be zero, 1 as they don't support/trust the police and 2 Fear of repurcussions.  How do we get change in the police if it isn't a 50/50 police force?  I would not even think of joining in a million years as I still don't trust elements within the psni as there are so many there who would have been in the RUC.  But I do not begrudge any young person joining to try and make a difference, maybe they don't remember/or know so much of past troubles and the amount of collusion.

But it's not the RUC is it? The RUC is a convenient tag from those who want it to fail. Until people realize that attitudes which suggest it's ok to shoot at the police in northern Ireland are outdated, nothing is going to change. How do we get a more balanced police force (which I assume you want) if we can't get Catholics to join it because the "it's ok to shoot the cops" mentality still prevails?

I think we all need some group therapy... Now everyone repeat after me

"it's not ok to shoot people, it's not ok to shoot people, ITS NOT OK TO SHOOT PEOPLE"!

There's hugs and an ice cream social after were finished with our rehabilitation.
Well it is the RUC, a new uniform and name doesnt change much.
Your ignorance of the changes that have taken place in policing here is understandable, given the fact that you live in England. Nationalists and republicans have accepted the PSNI, if recruitment numbers are anything to go by. Out on the ground, the main gripe that nationalists would have with the police these days is that their response times leave something to be desired. The only people stiil refusing to recognise the new policing dispensation are the same people who go out shooting pizza delivery boys, together with their supporters. Oh yeah, and people who live in England.
Nonsense, the police force is no more acceptable to many nationalists than it was years ago.
Look at Kevin McDaid's killing back in May, I seen no difference to the way it was handled by the RUC.  My family and friends at home see no difference in the RUC/PSNI, houses being broken in to every night, elderly people afraid of the their lives and what's does the police do about it? Jack shit.

Btw, what does recruitment show? How many new recruits are nationalists from south armagh? I dont know of any.

One reason could be that the dissedents would attack them and their families???

i hate when someone does that, it was there 10 minutes ago. .

Mike Sheehy tipped them over the edge  :D

Its funny watching an entire county doing  a "kevin Keegan"  ;D

A certain Mr Spillane's rant last Sunday was a bit Keegan-esk? No?

Final Score Mayo 2-9  Down   0-9

Game was decided by Mayo's 2 goals within the 1st 7 minutes of the 2nd half and the outanding Slingerman iin goals for them.  Outside of that Down had the majority of possession and played the better football but the insistence on going for goal probably cost them dearly.  Inexperience being the key, but fair play to Mayo they hung in there and waited for their opportunities and well done.  They will need to improve considerably though to beat a very strong armagh team but best of luck to both teams!  Hard luck to Down, it just wasn't our day.
