General discussion / Are you a tout?
October 13, 2009, 11:45:17 AM
Have you ever reported someone on the board? If so, why did you feel the need to do so?  Did you regret it after you did it or were you content with the decision you made?  Personally I don't think there's a comment that could make me report somebody, it's an internet discussion board for christ's sake!  So own up you crying, ass licking snitches.

General discussion / Top 10 Childrens Questions
August 13, 2009, 12:44:08 PM
From BBC website, some clinkers:

1) Why don't all the fish die when lightning hits the sea?

"My daughter tends to come out with a question like this, which totally confounds you, about once a week", says Will Sharpe, from Sandy in Bedfordshire. It was asked by his daughter, Kimberley, now six, when she was five, and may have followed a trip to feed the ducks. "This is just one of those which stuck with me, I think I tried to fob it off. She can be quite dippy at times, but can come out with these questions which seem totally profound," he says.

2) How much does the sky weigh?

I must admit all I could do was just laugh and say, 'because it is!'

Angela Fraser

Science questions baffle parents
This question was posed by Ken Bright's son Ben, who is now 11, when he was four, as they drove from their home in Brighton to a children's zoo. He says: "It's stuck with me. I think he was just looking out of the window of the car and just came out with it. I looked at my partner Jane and said, "well, that's quite a question. What prompted it, I don't know. I said something along the lines of, 'It's the weight of the universe minus the earth, because that's what the sky is.' I don't think he understood."

3) Why can't people leave other people alone?

"This is a good one. What can you tell your nine-year-old as to why people can't keep themselves to themselves?" asks Martina, from London. "Do you say, 'people just can't contain themselves,' or 'people aren't aware they are doing it,' or 'people are clumsy things?'"

4) Why are birds not electrocuted when they land on electricity wires?

"My daughter, then six, threw me when she asked me this. I had no idea," says Jo from, North Yorkshire. But I Googled it and got back to her. It is important not to just say, 'I don't know, shh,' like I see some parents do. Feed their inquisitive minds, and you may learn something yourself too."

5) What is time?

"I once heard a child ask a parent this. A tough question perhaps, but unfortunately the parent replied, 'tick tock, tick tock,' a far from satisfactory answer," says Naomi, from Exeter. "Although, 'the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as whole' might have been a bit much," she adds.

6) Why is the Moon sometimes out in the day and sometimes at night?

Emma Geertman, from Pembrokeshire says she was stumped by this question from her five-year-old. "Thank goodness for the internet," she says.

7) Why did God let my kitten die?

Is the tricky question posed by a child and sent in by Darrow, from Leicester.

8 ) Why do I like pink?

"If my children ask a question I don't know the answer to, then we'll go and look it up together. I've learnt some interesting things like that," says Debbie Welch, from Surrey. "Mind you, I was stumped by this question posed by my then four-year-old."

9) Why is water wet?

"My eldest daughter, who was about four or five at the time, once asked me this while she was sitting in the bath," says Angela Fraser, from Swaffham in Norfolk. "I must admit all I could do was just laugh and say, 'because it is!'" she says.

10) Why does my best friend have two dads?

This is the sensitive question which has been posed by a child close to Daniel White, in Aberdare, Wales.

General discussion / Hands

Has anyone ever watched this series that is on now and again on RTE 1?  Best show on tv by a mile.

It goes through taditional crafts in Ireland and the processes involved.

Episodes include "Saddle Making", "Boat Making" and the best of all "Thatching".

Some great lines in it, brilliant characters and a very good insight into the work that went into things that now can be done so simply in a big factory, bar thatching of course.

General discussion / Rumours
August 05, 2009, 10:20:46 AM
Are rumours funny?

I remember a rumour being started about one of the posters on this board, that he was stealing stock from the shop he worked in. Needless to say it didnt go down well but it provided us with a few laughs and it was amazing at the spped it got to him then back to the source!

Anyone else start any good rumours that perhaps got out of hand?

General discussion / How can you care about soccer?
July 30, 2009, 10:14:40 AM
This isn't a wind up.  Just want to try and get into the minds of the soccer-obsessed posters on the board.

I was a Man Utd fanatic when I was younger, but once Cantona left I lost all interest.

I probably loved soccer at that age because all children idolise people and soccer players were my chosen celebs.

Where do the older posters get their passion from and why does it mean so much to them for Man Utd, Liverpool or Celtic to win?

It's something I cannot understand.

Any way I can do this quickly and easily?

Why do so many people on this board not know how to use words like "there", "their" and "they're"; or "to" and "too".

Are a lot of people that stupid or are they just lazy? Maybe they just don't care.

F*ck it pisses me off.

Choice of Uni courses? Decision not to go to uni? Choice of jobs? Choice of wife?

Is there anything that you look back on with regret and think "I should have done this / that".

You punks in the US? Any of you regret moving?

General discussion / M2 Mayhem!
February 16, 2009, 12:33:30 PM
Anyone else stuck on the M2 yesterday?? It took me 3 hours to do a journey that normally takes 3/4 of an hour.

There were a few signs advising to take the diversion but the motorway was still open for cars to go down.  After we had passed the exit by about 500 yards the traffic was at a standstill.  Why they didnt cone off the motorway and MAKE you take the diversion is beyond me.

There are some great lyrics to songs that are very poetic then there are lyrics that are pure trash.

One of my favourite lines of a song is from Me and Bobby McGee:

"I'd trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday"

One of my not-so-favourite lyrics were from the song I believe was called Life:

"I wouldn't like to see a ghost, it's a sight I fear most, I'd rather have a piece of toast, watch the evening news"

That sucks f**king ass.

Are there any lines in particular songs that stand out for you? (For whatever reason)

General discussion / Would you want to win the Lotto?
January 06, 2009, 05:15:18 PM
I often find myself saying "it would be unreal to win the lotto" etc etc but when it comes to the crunch would you really want to win the lotto? If so how much would you think is ample?

The thing I always though about was that its only you that wins it.  Your friends and famly all still have their 9-5s so you cant jet off whenever you want (unless by yourself).  Then there is there possibility of the mess it could cause in terms of "who gets how much".

There are a hell of a lot of pros but do the cons come anywhere near them?

General discussion / Words only the Irish use.
December 05, 2008, 11:52:57 AM
I love the wee phrases and words we have that nobody else uses for example:

Quare

Eejit

Scundered (although in south Derry scundered means fed up whereas practically everywhere else it means embarrassed)

Th'on

Howl (hold)

Cowl (cold)

Curt

Any others welcome  ;D

General discussion / Getting out of bed in the morning!
November 27, 2008, 09:28:18 AM
I am finding it more and more difficult to get up in the mornings.  I set my alarm every night but every morning without fail I put it off for half an hour meaning I miss breakfast.  I should be getting up at 7 but nowadays its always closer to half 7.  How can I get out of this rut?

General discussion / Soupy Norman
November 14, 2008, 01:23:58 PM
How aware is anybody on the board of Soupy Norman?? Possibly one of the funniest things to have been put on tv.  First came across it last xmas and hadn't a clue what was going on! Absolutely hilarious.
