General discussion / Favourite Item of Clothing
« on: April 26, 2023, 05:27:24 PM »
I have a cycling top which is I purchased around 1988, and still use it. Don't tell the wife, but it was quite expensive at the time.

Anyone else wear an item of clothing which is 35 years or older?

PS. I look great in it.

General discussion / Coronation Chicken Recipe
« on: April 05, 2023, 08:14:47 PM »
Apologies for the thread subject, but it's just to keep the riff-raff out.

Who is getting excited about the coronation of the british King Char-less (as my mum would say) three sticks?

Are you having a par-tay or have you been invited to one?

Or, has one invited one to one's coronation?

Is there money being doshed out for par-tays? Is there a mechanism to ensure fair funding and these events are not cold-houses for republicans, in the same way that loyalists love to attend St Patrick's Day?

GAA Discussion / County Stand Down
« on: June 27, 2022, 03:44:20 PM »
Just a question as to what happens when a county exits the championship.

Is there any post mortem?
Obviously all players go back to their clubs, but do they continue to train together even fortnightly?
Do the senior management start immediately to plan for next year?
Do they start a new player search?
Do players get together again in November?

General discussion / Street Humour
« on: April 27, 2022, 08:14:32 PM »
Thread to capture street humour i.e. not so funny stuff. For example, when you meet your neighbour washing his car and you quip "and will you do mine next?" Then the two of you chuckle in delight.

General discussion / Online Training for Hospitality Sector

Does anyone know any good online (cheap -> free) training courses for the hospitality sector, covering things like customer service and service management?

General discussion / GETTR

Has anyone joined the GETTR platform yet? Seems to me that every right wing brexiteer is heading there because Twitter apparently suppresses free speech.

General discussion / Odious People

Let's have a thread where we can name odious people (not GAA Board members of course) and pehaps let of some steam, eh?

General discussion / List of films considered the worst
« on: September 07, 2021, 10:11:57 PM »
How many of these have you watched?

I watched "Fire Maidens from Outer Space" made in 1955. So bad, it's hilarious!

General discussion / Northern nationalists versus ?
« on: December 29, 2020, 11:37:46 AM »
Quote
I've never once objected to a single post about any victim/s of the Troubles, and this forum has been filled with them over the years

So why do you object?

The mindset it takes to write the bolded part there boggles

Sadly there is a concerted strategy by a certain breed of northern nationalists to dehumanise "themmuns" and dismiss crucial truths which threaten the narrative of Sinn Fein through the construction of a Putinesque world of ultra-cynicism whereby anybody who voices these crucial and inconvenient truths is vilified

The irony is that those who dismiss voices of others as having "cynical motive" are the very people who buy into that Putinesque world of ultra-cynicism themselves, and they cannot comprehend how anybody might actually look at things through such framings as basic right and wrong

The breed of northern nationalists I reference above claim to want honesty, but in practice, they want the exact opposite, they want the truth swept under the carpet

As a northern nationalist myself, I don't understand this post. Perhaps Syd could elaborate?

GAA Discussion / USFC 2020 Semi-Final Armagh v Donegal

Let's start the conversation. My prediction:

Armagh 0-13 Donegal 3-15

Hope I am very wrong.

General discussion / The Official Hiking Thread
« on: September 01, 2020, 12:51:18 PM »
This thread is for you to tell us about your favourite walking/hiking routes. This month I climbed Slieve Gullion for the first time. It's a very short walk from the upper car park, about 30 mins up and 20 mins coming down.

Starting in Newcastle, Slieve Donard is a great hike - half a day.

If I walked to walk the highest peak in the Sperrins, then where would I start?

GAA Discussion / Armagh v Dublin 1977 All-Ireland Final
« on: May 16, 2020, 05:03:36 PM »
Good article in today's Irish News on Gerry O'Neill, manager of the Armagh team in 1977.

There will a whole new group of people realising the Martin O'Neill's older brother managed Armagh.

I probably knew this but forgot it. Armagh played Dublin in Parnell Park as a warm up, lost narrowly, but gave enough clues away to let the Dubs come up with a cunning plan for the actual final.

GAA Discussion / County Stars turning their hand to Acting
« on: May 10, 2020, 11:58:13 AM »
Following on from Paul Mescal's success in Normal People, which ex-county star from your county would make a great actor? (Tyronies - no need to mention Philip Jordan)

1) Who would make a great actor?
2) Who would make an awful actor?
