United have had a solid start to the year, maybe not that attractive at times, but only an unbelievable record breaking start from City is making them look good. No leagues are won by the start of November though, dunno why people are on here tearing their hair out tbh.

This discussion is interesting. Jon Champion suggesting what I was ridiculed for suggesting here over a year ago. Record against the top 6 away is a joke. Won League Cup and Europa because in reality United played no one in those competitions.

United played City, Spurs & Arsenal at the back end of last season when United had begun to the chances of finishing top 4 had already gone. That top 6 record is taken way out of context. People have very short memories, was only a few years since Mourinho won the league. United are in 2nd place, will qualify as group winners in their CL group and in the next round of the League cup. Its hardly been a dreadful start to the season.

Its ridiculous to be writing Mourinho off, winning 2 trophies was a good start and lets see what happens in the next 18 months.

The Glazers as ever get let off, no mention of them at all in the media. This whole mess all started with their under investment after Ronaldo left and wasn't replaced. The rebuilding process is still ongoing given how many average players were bought in the 3 summers after Fergie left.

The Glazers had to pay the debt they loaded on the club at that point .

Yep, unfortunately there's plenty of reds who are completely blind to what went on back then.

Fergie isn't completely exonerated either, Moyes was solely his decision.

Bullshit! He was not the decision maker, the board listened to him but he did not make the decision.

Hardly, they placed all their faith in Fergie to pick the manager and he got it very wrong. He'll have no input again after that.

You are 100% on the Glazers. How Fergie won those post Ronaldo titles with so little reinvestment was simply miraculous and probably led to him and the Glazers thinking he was infallible. His picking of his successor was an unmitigated disaster and he's now just a superficial presence, no more than an ambassador. Most reds don't realise it but the Glazers are still wrecking the club. Mourinho was appointed because United HAD to get into the Champions League for monetary reasons. How the team play or whether they actually win anything is of little interest to the Glazers.

We disagree on Mourinho. Pointing out he won the league 2 years ago can be countered by saying Rainieiri won it more recently and the mess Chelsea were in when he was sacked. Truth is the title was up for grabs in recent years as most of the top teams had dropped a level.

There obvious comes a time when a mangers time is up seanie but its clearly not now. United are easily in the best place they've been since Fergie left, lets see what happens this season before writing Mourinho's obituary.

United can't pull the same stunts that City do when it comes to players so Mourinho couldn't come in and buy and sell as many players as Pep has done over the road.

magpie seanie

I didn't want him from day 1 so it's not a case of wait and see for me. I do accept that there are good players signed that would not be at the club but for Mourinho's reputation but I feel his use of them and set up of the team is not giving them the best chance for success. Plus it's awful to watch bar against teams that you can steamroll with your power.

Being in the best place they've been since Fergie is not a high bar but I accept that's true.

Maroon Manc

I know you didn't want him its the others out there who've completely over reacted to a couple of poor performances.

You mean stunts like paying a world record fee for a player?? Mourinho really has an impossible job when you consider the limited funds he's been given.

Pogba, Ibrahimovic and Rojo are available for selection vs Newcastle.

That's a big boost. Need a run of wins now.

Probably something like 7 out of the next 8 if we are to trouble City.
