The problem for me is though that Givan did not get nearly enough flak for that. That, for me, was a resignation job. Now the SF one may or may not be but there has to be fair application of standards and when you see complete double standards in scrutiny from McBride, RDE etc then it's hard to listen to it.

Well if you believe that, then your colours are nailed pretty well to the mast. Fair play.

You just have to look at the people who are throwing the most mud in the background in this, RDE MC JB Sam McB FG / FF, so it is cutting through more as an opportunity to get one up on SF than being actually concerned about the crux of the issue.

I think that is why it isnt having the same impact across the public as they would have liked it to have.

Sean was a massive act to follow commitment levels unprecedented and never to be repeated by a volunteer.

Not getting into bashing a volunteer.

My point was more at a systemic level we are not giving the best chance to promote our games and make a big deal of juvenile competitions especially.

Quote from: quit yo jibbajabba on October 07, 2024, 11:38:18 AMOutsider looking in - were Minor A and B finals played at same time yesterday chaps?

Yeah they were both at 12pm, minor games are at 12pm on a Sunday all year in both codes so the semis and finals are the same. Not saying it has to be this way but that's they way they schedule them

Cheers chap. Bit weird for the odd die hard that may have wanted to watch both but no biggie I suppose

But then again it is a biggie, why the hell are we doing this to ourselves and our games.

A minor final deserves to be an event, why not get on in Dunsilly under the lights make a deal of it.

Same with the hurling, seems they couldn't wait to get it over and done with.

Why not promote them and try and do something different with them than just throwing them on a random Sunday at a crap time of the day.

Killing the thing and no one to blame but ourselves.

Don't think any one should be surprised by the way this has been handled. It wouldn't have been handled in any different way by any party on this Island north or south.

The brass neck on some trying to make political gain out of it would be laughable if it wasn't such a serious issue.

Quote from: NorthAntrim on October 07, 2024, 09:20:16 AMThe amount of ball Loughgiel lumped down on top of Molloy/Shiels was crazy. I think the conditions suited Dunloy. Likewise St Johns who should've nailed that goal chance just before Cushendalls and probably put them out

It did seem a bit primitive as an approach but think they were scared to go shorter with the puck out in fear of getting turned over higher  up. Physically they were dominated and there weren't the options even there to vary the puck out.

Dunloy were able to work their puck out better especially into the breeze. Helped them get a foot old in the game.

Saturday's game was a strange one and I'm not sure Cushendall will even know where they are at after that, St John's will be kicking themselves.

The goal chance toward the end for the Johnnies was the winning/ losing of the game and probably shows why they keep coming up short.

The game in Cushendall was a bit like men and boys, bar the wayward shooting which conditions probably played into Dunloy would have been out of sight. Loughgiel didnt seem to have any tactical answer.

Quote from: Gael-in-exile on October 04, 2024, 10:11:24 AMAre there any venues in the county capable of holding a double header?

I know pitch quality under wet weather puts it in question but otherwise does any club have 4 good quality dressing rooms, showering facilities, parking and spectator facilities??

I'd say there are plenty of grounds around the county that could and have accommodated a double header. I think there is a reluctance now simply from a revenue stand point to put them on any more.

Quote from: Maroon Manc on October 04, 2024, 09:51:15 AMJust baffled by what I'm watching as I am by the pundits who claim Ten Hag doesn't have a style of play, there's a clear style of play its just not working and amazed he continues with it.

Even Martinez who's been a revelation since he joined was dreadful last night, whole back 4 like against Spurs were made too look crap and thats down to the system. We are way too easy to play against, there's space everywhere and doesn't help when you've the likes of Rashford who makes half arsed attempts at closing down. I've heard countless pundit comment Rashford was brilliant last night and completely ignore his defending in both goals.

Play the same way against Villa Sunday and he's likely to be sacked on Monday, I was delighted he got the chance this season but the excesses have run out now as everyone bar Shaw is available. Thats a good squad, nowhere near as bad as made out by some and looks like he's incapable of getting the best out of them.

Go to Villa and replicate what he did in the cup final and work on tightening up his system over the international break, wishful thinking on my behalf though!

MM do you not think the CB's look all at sea last night because of who was playing in front of them?

Casimero is not capable of playing a holding midfield role on his own any more. Combine that with Dalot seemingly having a free role, meant that there was gaps every where in front of them and to the sides of them.
I would say they were glad to get off in the end.

He has to rotate the squad its just that when he does the depth isnt there. I do think with a system change there is more solidity within the squad but he seems reluctant to change.

Quote from: Jeepers Creepers on October 03, 2024, 10:29:47 PM'Rashford was rotating with Garnacho' -ETH. This will be interesting.

His job is on the line and he makes a pre-ordained sub to take off a player who has criminally underperformed for the last year but is having a good game, he'll always be the Ajax manager that blew it against Spurs, 3 of them were playing last night and he's gone in for others, mans away with the fairies, Roy Evans to Ruuds Gerard Houllier, dead man walking, the weekend send off could get ugly

To be fair to him I think it is only a matter of when not if, but at least it is pretty clear where he sees the priority. He is taking players off in these Europa games regardless of the situation of the game to attempt to keep them fresh for the league games the following weekend.

He knows it wont be Europa league results that will finally condemn him but the performance in the league that will.

Missing the point here, that Casement even being built to 'GAA' spec would still be a very attractive venue for large scale events and concerts etc. So the powers that be should be getting heads together now and determining how to deliver this on a scale and budget that works.

Quote from: tyroneman on October 03, 2024, 11:28:00 AMSurely there comes a point where other avenues for legal challenges are exhausted, or is there no mechanism to call for any and all challenges to be submitted by xxxx date so they can be dealt with one way or the other and progress either happens or an alternative is sorted?

Can a compulsory purchase order put an end to the constant objections and delays?

I would have thought that's exactly what they were for, otherwise no project of this scale would ever happen.

Quote from: lurganblue on October 03, 2024, 08:53:36 AMMaguire, Mainoo, Shaw, Rashford, Mount... an English core? Problem is that they are either not very good, young, lack leadership skills, or made of chocolate. You know there is a problem within the squad when Bruno is your captain.

While I wouldn't be picking Bruno as a captain there is no way to fault his effort levels or his commitment. Constantly top of the stats in terms of runs and distance covered, has gone off the boil this season off the back of the Euros. But its probably more of a reflection of the rest of the squad that he is captain rather than on himself.

Quote from: tiempo on October 02, 2024, 01:13:11 PMUtd need a Dave MacKay type signing, Clough brought from Spurs to Derby when many thought he was finished and steered the ship to great effect. Someone mentioned before thinking outside the box. If Utd had any gumption they'd try and relieve Jordan Henderson from his living hell abroad, re-kindle the flame with Keane at the helm.

Now that one did make me laugh, thanks Tiempo  ;D
