I just found out yesterday that if I send a letter first class from the north to the republic, that it takes a minimum of 3 days to reach its destination, in most cases 4 or 5 days.

Apparently all first class mail goes automatically by airmail, so it is flown to the England, then onwards to Dublin, at which point it heads off by road.

I always thought they had a cross border mail link between the north and south, but according to the post office yesterday this no longer exists!

Talk about inefficiency!

The wans in the Post Office in Lurgan asked me to put airmail on a parcel to Dublin and pay an international rate.

Instead, I drove to Omeath, got a fill up of cheap petrol, did my lotto in Davey's and posted the thing from the village.

Yes, they're sensitive to questions!"
