Emphasis on fitness levels gone extreme nearly & quality is just not there to follow.

Would a reduction of senior football teams, as is being talked about, maybe help some of the dual clubs re-focus a bit on hurling?

God im not sure, Ballyfin & Rosenallis just look burnt out, no kick or life in them, clonaslee have a bit more youth & freshness coming through but quality not as much at the moment . Could take Ballyfin a while to rebuild again, some fellas the wrong end of age scales holding on to keep numbers there too. Rosenallis & Clonaslee seem to have panels where half prefer football & half prefer the hurling , perhaps why they never make solid progress.

I cant see Abbeyleix beating R/E this time but maybe i am wrong & hope i am wrong because it would be a great boost to get back to another final for their clubs progression with the youth they have. Camross steadily improving but Ballacola will have their homework done too although they had a long lay-off , they will also be hungry to amend last years collapse. time will tell.

Quote from: Laois man on September 09, 2024, 06:15:19 PMShould be no senior B. Just senior intermediate plus Junior A B and C.

Agreed ,buttering it up, barely have 6 Senior standard Teams ,never mind 10 anyway. Standard of hurling in the county gone poor. Ballinikill probably to come straight back down unless RE/ Camross win the Premier Intermediate next year.

Quote from: Blow-in on September 05, 2024, 12:22:14 PMI'm hearing it is the same coaches and selectors from last year. Disappointing if that is true in my opinion. But that's just my thoughts.

Agreed , freshen things up and maybe bring in one person from outside both Tipp & Laois as coach & 2 new Laois men involved as selectors to start, maybe 1 with a coaching background also.
Any mention of players finishing or will that be more so hinted after Club Championship

I genuinely do not know who would even go for the 19s job or who to suggest, was just commenting the u19s are every bit as important as the Minors. So if you think it was bad move reinstating them to Minor Level how do you justify throwing them in with the u19s. Somebody on that 19s that may not make the squad now but could hurl senior in a few years & i do agree with you, Coaches are vital & proper genuine coaches too. Some things take time though i believe & sometimes there is never that proper progress or results we want to see.
Seen it from 90s though when Laois had somebody good involved they shafted them. Always one step forward and two steps backwards.  We all want the same outcome & may have different views, sometimes people have agendas though which sways the trail of thinking. How many good hurling men are even on the County Board now ??

His brother in law did not apply though did he, he is apart of the management team , which may or may not have anything to do with the re-appointment i don't know, but i am all for giving people a chance. One year is hard to gauge it on to be fair , its not the premier league where you have people in the waiting for a well paid job. i would say 2 years maybe even 3 then slate all you want if its been poor or regressive. You could have 7/8 really strong players gone from next years team and what replaces them not near the same quality & results bound to be different . We don't have the same conveyor belt other counties have
Damien Carter spent time with the minors before he became manager as far as i am aware also, hence perhaps why he left after 1 year as manager, he had 2/3 years overall done with them , i was asking is it ok to push this management team up to 19s but do not have them over the Minors ?
100% strive to produce a good minor team. I agree and am all for the best set-ups & available resources to aid improvement and progression for the underage players but it is not realistic with the county board we are dealing with to the best of my knowledge. Good quality Schools & Club Level is important at Grassroots i feel to prepare the young fellas for the county team environment. How many Laois Schools are hurling A Tier Competitions or strongly competing B ?? Yet when they put on the Laois Jersey there is higher expectations
Players going into County set-ups that may be strong for their club may be well off it county standard. The depth in quality is not always there, Yet we blame the managements. It is up to the management to uphold the standards there & improve to a degree yes, but it doesn't always happen across the board underage / senior

Quote from: Hurling123 on August 30, 2024, 01:53:38 PMIf you look back in recent years the minor management team have gone forward to the next level with the team. Isn't there a u19 grade being put together this coming year?? Last 3 minor managers glen and crew . Damien and Declan.
I have now been informed of some information one of the members of the management team is Shane Keegan brother in law and the same Shane was the one who chaired and ran the selection committee..
So much for Shane brining change 😭 just more of the same re appointment your friends and family.

You seem to have a very strong invested interest in the minor set-up for some reason. , are you saying it is ok to push them on up to the U19s who are every bit as important, but do not keep them near the Minors because there will be no progression. Apart from them 2 competitive last few year's what way did other teams shape up or are you short sighted

Best of Luck to him & Laois .
Management at county level & club level a bit like musical chairs at times, nice to see fresh faces coming on the scene but its easier said than done. Get back to the Joe Mac Final & competitive league vital.

Ballacola favorites still it seems, although if R/E were to find consistency it would be a good game between them.
Camross made little work of Portlaoise ,even with all their transfers they are not near it. Camross will improve from here. The Harps fell apart against Abbeyleix, have it all to do next day now.
Same teams to be in the semi finals again as last year i think unless The Harps turn over Camross. Abbeyleix to pip Portlaoise

Mountmellick could be favorites but they have not shown much either bar beating Slieve Bloom who are bang average at the moment.& scraping past Mountrath. Clonad should have won that game Friday by all accounts their slow start, indiscipline with plenty of wide's cost them in the end & they narrowly lost out to Mountrath.
Mountrath look average also, they haven't set it alight but that could change next day with local derby, but it is very hard to gauge that group,  Trumera are always winning or loosing games by a few points over the years, wouldn't agree they have gone back a bit though, numbers game with them, they were down a few Sunday it looked. PRT could be dark horses, they bet Trumera & The Harps & a slow start v Abbeyleix cost them. so i would reckon they will definitely test Slieve Bloom as they would be fit from the football also to last the pace as they've won their 2 games late on. I also think Abbeyleix will have a big say, looking at their team on paper its as good as what Mountmellick have so its not a one horse race by any means. Possible Trumera v Mountmellick , PRT v Abbey semi finals .

Brilliant viewing last night on a top class man. He has really had some career & life between his playing days, coaching, music & tragedies ( where he got the time & energy god knows ) & yet he continues to give what he can to the youth of today , who should appreciate the knowledge & passion this man has, 2nd to none.
He is one of life's really good guys who always related to values, what he believed and stood for & his roots/ his parents throughout , so humble through and through.  Well Done P C

Anybody know the proposed pro's in making people vote in a 10 team Championship at this Meeting or was it encouraged to be voted in.
As above stated more dead rubber games imaginable , games probably still played in O Moore Park with no atmosphere
& less competitiveness in Leinster at Lower tiers.
A Tweak to the 8 teams system could have worked perhaps as the standard is not there to make it 10,  & if not a success,
then maybe look at it in 2 years with more creative ideas

Cody Comerford u20 again next year ?
Laois always seemed to have issue between u20 & Senior bringing in too many u21 players too soon. This resulting in a large group taken away from training with their team-mates on the u21 / now u20 Squad & they never made progress at that age-group although this should be deemed a vital age-group.
Players not getting enough game time, missing out with their own pre season games of u20 & setting them back confidence , interest & performance wise , as well as getting used to hurling with their own players

Views on 12 team Senior & Intermediate proposal  ?
Is it basically not although seeded on next years performances going into the 2025 Season, a Senior A/B & Intermediate A/B Competition set-up without stating . Don't get me wrong something has to be done to aid improvement of both the standard of games and the interest of neutrals to go to games, but lets say if a Clubs 2nd Team gets to an Intermediate Semi Final next year they cant gain promotion as their 1st team are already up senior , or will they be allowed as its ( Senior B )  & does a Team that was not good enough to make a semi-final Intermediate gain automatic promotion on this default.  Then the teams that lost all /  majority of their senior b games don't get relegated & allowed stay up otherwise

Camross and Portlaoise defintely competitive. Colt Shanahoe were never going to compete against the KK champs
Be interesting to see where Naas are at next day against Na Fianna. Possible Leinster winners on the other semi final though

The Harps better team by far, would love to see them & Abbeyleix been in the Top4 Teams of Senior for the years to come freshen things up

Any other older players back in than Cleere & Kavanagh involved with the seniors?
