Right, im wanting to go back to lighting the fire in the winter evenings. Sticks, turf and coal mainly.

I'm going to need a grate and fire front obviously. Not sure what's the best types to buy. So hoping for some advice.

Anything else I'd need to consider?

Heard this discussed recently about seemingly everyday things that some people have never done or seen, eg. never been on a plane, never been to the cinema, never owned a TV etc.

It would be interesting to hear others.

So, tomorrow it will be 25 years since that night.

I can't remember much about the match except the two goals, but I do remember the hostile atmosphere. The relief when McLoughlin hit the equaliser, then afterwards the seemingly long wait to see if Spain could hang on v Denmark.

What are your memories of that night?

Just had to start this thread to gauge reaction.

So, let's hear it...

A bit of a morbid one, but since hearing of Ray Wilkins passing away, there must be actually quite a few players who have played in the Premier League since it started in 1992, who are no longer with us. Can only think of a few off the top of my head, but surely there's a lot more:

Ray Wilkins
Liam Miller
Gary Speed
Dalian Atkinson
Les Sealey
Ugo Ehiogu
David Rocastle

General discussion / iPhone / Data question
March 30, 2018, 05:56:43 PM
I have an iphone, but don't use it as my everyday phone. Thinking of cancelling the home broadband, and buy a monthly data bundle, and use the iphone like you would a tablet.

Is there a phone company who sell data bundles only? Or can you only buy monthly bundles that include calls/texts/data?

Irish speaking area behind Gerry Arthurs stand tomorrow, before and after the match.

There will be announcements in Irish, and more Irish visible around the ground. Traditional music, tea, coffee and freebies given out.

Sounds like a good idea.

Hope the tent isn't blown away!

GAA Discussion / Why hasn't Cluxton replied?
March 13, 2018, 12:18:03 AM
Just been reading an article in Irish News about GAA historian Michael Anderson, who wrote to all All Ireland winning captains asking for an autograph for a collection.

All captains gladly responded... except Stephen Cluxton. That's the only 4 years missing.

Would make a nice museum collection.

What's going on here then?

General discussion / Luas network

So what's the deal with the new Luas cross city?

And more importantly, how close will the new line take you to Croke Park?

Focusing on the 1980s tonight.

Top 5 are;

- Barry McGuigan
- Eamon Coghlan
- Ray Houghtons Euro 88 goal
- Stephen Roche Tour win
- seamus Darby AI winning goal 82

No mention of Dennis Taylor's world championship win in 1985. Surely that's Ireland's greatest sporting moment of the 1980s?

General discussion / Van Hire question
August 27, 2017, 09:23:27 PM
Need to hire a van for the day. Anyone recommend a hire firm in the Craigavon/Armagh area?  And how much it's likely to cost?

I'm only really catching this story today as I missed MOTD on Sunday.

Apparently he organised it all himself. Jaysus, what a egotistical arsehole!

Apparently it was played by mistake before Cork v Clare on Saturday night.

I hope Billy Sheehan wasn't in attendance. Poor fella is confused enough as it is.

General discussion / Dogs and House Rules
February 07, 2017, 02:51:56 PM
A few short years ago, I never knew of a dog that got over the back door. Now they never leave the house. Call to someone's house these days and if there's not a half dozen Jack Russells jumping over you on the sofa, a Labrador is eating your ham sandwich off your plate or a Rottweiler is eyeing you up because you're sitting in his armchair. Seriously, what the feck is going on? When did all this become the norm?

Do you have a dog, and what rules do you insist on?

Do they live indoors or do they never get over the door?

Does it cause arguments in the family?

Other than having a relay race in Croke Park a couple of years ago, where else do you see athletics promoted? Surely it's time for a name change?

The GA doesn't have the same ring to it, but surely the Athletic part is meaningless?

General discussion / Mass attendance
December 13, 2016, 04:56:05 PM
OK so results are not going to be reflective of the country as a whole, but just wondered about the boards mass attendance.

So, the Brits say they own all of Lough Foyle.

Lough-stealing backstards!

General discussion / Singers/Vocalists you hate
November 04, 2016, 05:24:12 PM
We've had great voices, so it's only right we have a thread of singers you can't stand. I'll start...

Adele
Ellie Goulding
Leann Rimes
Celine Dion

I'm interested in collating how many clubs in Ireland are named after Republican figures, particularly those from the 1916 and 1798 rebellions. Feel free to add your own county.

Armagh folk may want to correct me, or add more...
