Well said PHPearse, if they want to play for Tyrone and not their University, how can Tyrone or Harte get in trouble.  Players choice!

At the end of the day this is an inter-county competition, not a 3rd level one.  The Universities have been let in and they shouldnt be calling the shots or getting any preferential treatment.  Fair dues, if county teams can accomodate them by letting their students play with them then so be it, but if the players or the management want certain players to line out for the county then so be it. For teams like tyrone, who dont play challenge games, the mckenna cup is important to blood and try new players.  Put on top of that that tyrone have several players recovering from injury, then they need all the available players they can get.  For boys like Brendan Boggs, Colm Cavanagh etc, this competition is a big opportunity for them to show they canhold their own at competitive(although not championship)senior intercounty football.  Most of these players have come through successful underage teams, and they know that opportunities to break into the senior team or to get themselves in the running for a spot or likely sub apperance are scarce.  As stated, these players made the decision and I believe it should be their choice and nobody elses.  Im sure if you had asked any of the players in question as to who they wanted to play for, they would have said their county!

The 2nd part has to be Frank and Brian Mc Guigan.

I'd hardly say they are fucked, maybe there is about 12 setanta players on the Donegal panel, but there is probably 12 better replacements from Burt.  They are the No1 side in Donegal for15 odd years and have not sent as many players along recently, but Im sure if they came in they would be better than those they replaced.  Setanta have a few good hurlers such as Danny Cullen, and K evin Campbell is a good free taker but doesnt contribute much from play.  The burt free taker Andy Wallace seems to be a better free taker though, hardly misses plus he battles away in midfield.  What will happen the setanta players, will they look to transfer to another club nearby such as Ballybofey or would they even go to Strabane in Tyrone.

Im not from Antrim, but out of curiosity what is the craic with Creggan. Ive  heard they have 8 players on panel, then I hear 4.   How many exactly is there?  How good a side are they in all seriousness.  I would be able to rate the top few teams in Antrim but never heard much about Creggan.  You have St Galls/Cargin, then the likes of Lamh Derg, Portglenone, St Johns, Rossa.  But where would Creggan be?  I seen a large squad of them in Cookstown training a few weeks ago.  Obviously there is ppl to come into the Antrim Panel yet, such as P Cunningham and whoever else is playing for a Uni.  What about B herron, has he joined K Mc Gourty in simply opting out.  I hope you's do well, and believe me I think you's will be better without the likes of K mc Gourty, bit of a mouth and hasnt really delivered for Antrim.  Groom Crozier and the other McGourty in good time, but from what I hear the panel is gelling well and enjoying Jody's work.

Its good to see Brolly on board, no matter if you like him or not he writes a good article.  Always good craic and holds nothing back, although big Brian Mc Gilligan is always featured in his articles.  Havent seen the Derry Journal in a while, was wondering if he was still putting in his 'Brollys Bites' column.  Was some laugh.  Would like to see Martin Mc Hugh on board too, writes a good article every week for the Irish Star.

Looking forward to seeing what it was like, the Game was a decent enough paper, but I think there would be an interest in this new one if its a good publication.  Mag's like hoganstand are ok, but its good to read about the game locally, here in Ulster.  At the minute I just look forward to Tuesdays Irish Star pull out, which is as good as it gets for local GAA.

Poor Kieran, I remember he had the leg broke a few summers ago when the marquee was up.  Good that he's stable, lucky to be alive, injuries sound horrific..  I only got a message frm him on bebo last week about his xmas plans, crazy to think what has happened. The tributes are pouring into SPOH's account.  Very very sad!

Very surreal indeed.  I remember Sean Paul from his stint in Coleraine, he was leaving when I was starting.  When I heard others were in the car, I had a bad feekling it would be McKinley or O'Loan as they all mucked about together along with Niall Higgins.  Any word on McKinleys situation.  Who else was invloved?

A hurling team called Camowen Gaels formed in Omagh/Killyclogher in 2004 for seniors, and also there has been a few underage clubs to spring up I think in 2005, namely Fintona and St Johns( Dromore?).  Good development, alot of work going into the schools around these areas and hopefully this can lead them to fielding senior sides in 8/9 years time.  As young clubs go, Errigal Ciaran from Tyrone have had considerable success.  They were formed in 1990 and have won 6 tyrone senior championships and 2 senior ulster club championships plus several senior league titles and countless reserve and underage championships and leagues.

3 wishes:

1) Simply for Tyrone to be rid of injuries, which would enable the best 15 to be on the pitch thus giving us another All Ireland
2) Waterford to win the Liam Mc Carthy
3) A Tyrone/Armagh All Ireland Final - Nothing beats winning Sam by beating Armagh for it

Have no argument with Henry getting the award, his constant high scoring from play and frees this year was amazing.  To perform as well as he did in nearly every game is amazing.  O'Rourke's achievement was great, the outdoor silver was great as was the indoor.  But winning indoors in athletics seems to count for little in the grand scale.  Personally, I think Paul Brady should have got it, look at his achievements around the globe in his sport.  He is the best, O'Rourke isnt and although Henry is I think due to the wider scale of competition and onus on individualism that Brady should have got it
