Meanwhile the Munster Council expect around 35k at Limerick/Cork and 22k at Tipp/Waterford hurling games.
Entertainment guaranteed and nice Stadiums too.

People want cheap/free entry to the games, with entertainment provided in a nice fancy stadium. And if they can't make it to the game they want free to air tv coverage even if that means giving the rights away on the cheap.

I want value, if I go to CP I appreciate that there will be a supplement for that stadium. If I go to f*cking Carlow I don't expect to pay the same price for sh*t facilities. Plus the product as in the actual game is not entertaining anymore. 10 years ago I would have gone to both Leinster double headers Sunday week, struggling to motivate myself to the one featuring Kildare nevermind the Saturday games.

Less than 4k at Kildare v Wicklow. Leinster Championship has died a slow painful death. That they charged €25 for a seat shows how disenfranchised it has all become. €10 to watch Kildare's Minor B team play Kilkenny.....people are voting with their feet.

Looks like the Kildare/Wicklow game was played in Carlow. Is that usual for Leinster first round games?

All Leinster Championship games are played at neutral venues unless you are Dublin, then until recently all their games were at home in CP, now it's just the semi-final as well as the final.

Every sport will have good and bad games. There were a couple of really good games involving Kildare in last years championship against Mayo and Galway. The Kerry one also had a very good first half. Not sure about the other matches though the Monaghan one wasn't great.

I think due to years of negative commentary on the sport people judge football harsher than other sports. You don't see soccer fans/pundits focusing on one of many boring 0 0 games for too long.  In rugby you'll pay more into a pro 14 game versus an Italian team than many championship games which more often than that will turn into a hammering. For international tests/friendlies you are often asked to pay up to 100 quid with no 5 euro options for children.

That's not to say all is perfect with the gaa. They could reduce prices for the earlier championship games. And the Dubs dominance is a big issue as too many teams no longer have a realistic chance of winning anything. And in recent years too many teams have tried to park the bus, though the bigger teams have moved away from this.

And Conpetiitive dog eat dog games with a huge amount at stake

Last weekend there were games in Cork City ,Kilkenny City  and Waterford City, all home venues for teams which helped the walk up,last minute crowd.

I'd expect the Waterford v Tipp game to break 25k

The Tipp v Clare game is nearly sold out already, better to have the sold out signs up in Waterford and Ennis, home games, packed house, hype than in a half full Gaelic grounds or thurles

People are not voting with their feet. People have moved on. There are more entertaining and cheaper ways to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Very much so. HQ are pricing a lot of people out of matches. Add in exclusive matches on Sky, and it's no wonder young kids idolise Mo Salah rather than Michael Murphy.

The majority of soccer and rugby is shown exclusively on sky and it's a lot dearer to take a child to watch them, doesn't stop their players being idols.

The biggest problem in football at the minute is Dublin's dominance and the fall of in quality outside the top 4 or 5. Like Kilkenny's dominance in hurling the Dubs dominance won't last forever but it is damaging the longer it goes on.

We are looking at nearly a decade already of dominance. Tyrone had a 6 year period where they won 3 AI's, 1 League title and 2 provincial.

Dublin in a 8 year period have won 6 AI's, 5 leagues and 8 Provincials. This is not a fad, this is a well financed machine, that is evolving rather than declining!

And attendances are falling

"Overall, the average attendances figures at the 39 games in the 2018 All-Ireland series – which includes the qualifiers, the Super 8s and the All-Ireland semi-final and final – was 13,225.
In 2017 when there were 33 games played in the football series the average attendance was 19,049."

"On the vexed question of Games Development grants, Dublin continue to secure a lion share of the €9.6m paid out directly to counties.
Dublin received €1.3m – an increase on last year's figure of £1.2m. Meath were the next biggest recipients with €367,400 but Cork – which has more registered GAA teams than any other county – received just €249,000."

There's ample reason to believe that the innovations introduced in 2018 - a condensed calendar championship and not-so-Super8s - devastated both interest in the championship and attendances at the gate.

If this is true, expect the same in 2019.

The GAA need a strong Dublin! Anyone who says other wise is only being "divisive and mean-spirited".

They'll soon have to bring in Provincial teams to provide meaningful opposition!!

It's a bit like Leinster v Lansdowne in the football
the Dub machine vs Kildare or Meath who don't have access to the same pool of money

There's too many games. The novelty has worn off.  People can't afford to go to all of them, especially in a short timeframe.

Take Monaghan last year. A few qualifiers, then Super 8's - Croke Park, Clones, Galway. A week later back to Dublin for semi. That's a lot of dough to be forking out in a month.
