Mostrim need 1 more point I think to avoid a scrap.

Was very surprise to see Abbey getting such a trimming.
Slashers flirting with danger. They have us and Dromard but they will be looking to Eggistown for a handy win.

Be nice to deny them it.

I did think after our match that Rathcline were capable of posing problems for both Abbey and Colmcille but after their performance against Killoe I was expecting the tyres to have gone flat, so less surprised by them winning than the margin of it (going from two points down to eleven up in the last quarter).

Week 3 beckons:

Group 1:

Mostrim v Ballymahon, Sat, 7pm, Carrickedmond
Longford Slashers v Granard, Sat, 7pm, Colmcille
Clonguish v Dromard, Sun, 7pm, Abbeylara

Granard 3pts +14
Dromard 3pts +5
Longford Slashers 2pts +20
Clonguish 2pts +3
Mostrim 2pts -2
Ballymahon 0pts -40

Mostrim should be able to solidify their position a bit after last week's (deserved) win against Clonguish, who face the toughest outing in the group against Dromard. Slashers and Granard slog it out in what looks likely to end up as the mid-table battle.

Group 2:

Mullinalaghta v Colmcille, Fri, 8pm, Monaduff
Abbeylara v Rathcline, Sat, 8pm, Newtownforbes
Carrickedmond v Killoe, Sun, 3pm, Granard

Killoe 4pts +23
Mullinalaghta 4pts +8
Abbeylara 2pts +5
Colmcille 2pts -5
Carrickedmond 0pts -9
Rathcline 0pts -22

... or get off the pot time for Colmcille after two underwhelming performances, while only the margins will be in question in the other two matches.

Paddy Power odds (https://www.paddypower.com/gaelic-games/longford-club-football?tab=outrights):

Mullinalaghta 7/4 15/8
Killoe 5/2 2/1 15/8
Dromard 11/2 5/1 11/2
Colmcille 11/2 9/1 8/1
Abbeylara 12/1 10/1 12/1
Clonguish 16/1 10/1 14/1
Longford Slashers 10/1 14/1
Mostrim 14/1 20/1 16/1
Granard 25/1 20/1 16/1
Rathcline 33/1 50/1 100/1
Carrickedmond 50/1 80/1 200/1
Ballymahon 100/1 200/1 500/1

Boylesports (https://www.boylesports.com/sports/gaa/outrights)

Killoe 3/1 13/8
Mullinalaghta 11/8 13/8
Colmcille 3/1 6/1
Clonguish 12/1 6/1 7/1
Dromard 6/1 11/2 15/2
Abbeylara 14/1 12/1 10/1
Mostrim 10/1 20/1 14/1
Longford Slashers 10/1 20/1
Granard 40/1 33/1
Carrickedmond 100/1
Rathcline 100/1
Ballymahon 100/1 200/1

Now joint favourites on both bookies.

Second round of matches this weekend.

Group 1:

Granard v Dromard, Fri, 8pm, Killoe
Longford Slashers v Ballymahon, Fri, 8pm, Kenagh
Mostrim v Clonguish, Sun, 5.15pm, Ballymahon

Granard 2pts +14
Clonguish 2pts +6
Dromard 2pts +5
Mostrim 0pts -5
Longford Slashers 0pts -6
Ballymahon 0pts -14

Slashers to get a cricket score against relegation-favoured Ballymahon, Granard to come up well short against Dromard, and Mostrim to lose out against Clonguish (sorry Shamrock).

Group 2:

Mullinalaghta v Abbeylara, Sat, 7pm, Granard
Carrickedmond v Colmcille, Sat, 7pm, Ballinalee
Killoe v Rathcline, Sun, 7pm, Carrickedmond

Killoe 2pts +8
Mullinalaghta 2pts +7
Abbeylara 2pts +6
Carrickedmond 2pts -6
Rathcline 2pts -7
Colmcille 2pts -8

Hot and heavy derby in prospect in Granard, Colmcille have to start doing the business against Carrickedmond after a poor showing last time, and Killoe should have enough for what is a useful Rathcline side if they can make it out of the group.

Paddy Power odds (https://www.paddypower.com/gaelic-games/longford-club-football?tab=outrights):

Mullinalaghta 7/4 15/8
Killoe 5/2 2/1
Dromard 11/2 5/1
Colmcille 11/2 9/1
Abbeylara 12/1 10/1
Clonguish 16/1 10/1
Longford Slashers 10/1 14/1
Mostrim 14/1 20/1
Granard 25/1 20/1
Rathcline 33/1 50/1
Carrickedmond 50/1 80/1
Ballymahon 100/1 200/1

Boylesports (https://www.boylesports.com/sports/gaa/outrights)

Killoe 3/1 13/8
Mullinalaghta 11/8 13/8
Dromard 6/1 11/2
Clonguish 12/1 6/1
Colmcille 3/1 6/1
Abbeylara 14/1 12/1
Longford Slashers 10/1 20/1
Mostrim 10/1 20/1
Granard 40/1
Carrickedmond 100/1
Rathcline 100/1
Ballymahon 100/1

Killoe coming in on the betting odds to be joint favourite on one bookie, although it's possible that too much is being read into the victory over Colmcille.

Senior Championship beginning this weekend with two rather lopsided groups on display.

Group 1:

Dromard v Mostrim, Fri, 8pm, Monaduff
Ballymahon v Granard, Sat, 7pm, Ardagh
Clonguish v Longford Slashers, Sat, 7pm, Killoe

Group 2:

Colmcille v Killoe, Fri, 8pm, Newtownforbes
Abbeylara v Carrickedmond, Sat, 7pm, Edgeworthstown
Rathcline v Mullinalaghta, Sat, 7pm, Colmcille

Paddy Power odds (https://www.paddypower.com/gaelic-games/longford-club-football?tab=outrights):

Mullinalaghta 7/4
Killoe 5/2
Colmcille 11/2
Dromard 11/2
Longford Slashers 10/1
Abbeylara 12/1
Mostrim 14/1
Clonguish 16/1
Granard 25/1
Rathcline 33/1
Carrickedmond 50/1
Ballymahon 100/1

Boylesports (https://www.boylesports.com/sports/gaa/outrights)

Mullinalaghta 11/8
Colmcille 3/1
Killoe 3/1
Dromard 6/1
Longford Slashers 10/1
Mostrim 10/1
Clonguish 12/1
Abbeylara 14/1

Killoe versus Colmcille will probably be the match of the round with most people's favourites, extremely narrowly beaten in the league final, facing off against the outgoing champions who had a disappointing (to put it mildly) league campaign and are facing next season in Division 2 in the absence of any Deus Ex Machina. Clonguish strike me as being the most incorrectly priced of the remainder - I don't think they have a championship in them this year but they have the capacity to surprise.

Leader Cup/Division 1 final

Mullinalaghta win 5-4 on penalties.

I remember a crucial match back in 2018 where we had just gone two points ahead due to a penalty and were into stoppage time. Two players, one from each side, got into an altercation and were both shown second yellows but our player was not shown a red by the referee.

We made bloody sure he came off immediately, red card or no. We weren't going to give our opponents cause for an appeal.

If only I could remember who those opponents were...

Conditions were indeed awful. A sucker punch at the end but dems the breaks.

Good football found it hard to thrive in the weather but, that said, it was an entertaining game for the neutral. Colmcille only had very brief spells of domination and, had Mullinalaghta exploited their long spells of dominance, then they would have won well.

Yeah, we really didn't take our opportunities - certainly not to the same extent Colmcille did. Only one forward out of six scored which is not a great outcome even though a couple of those scores were awesome.

QuoteWell done Colmcille - I fancied ye from a while back. First title since 2008.

Laurel - will Mullinalaghta be at the well again next year?

I would hope so. We were missing one starting player and another potential starter with injury and another who went travelling after the Mostrim game.

Congratulations to Colmcille who were more efficient at converting their chances in awful conditions.
