That ice hockey player who I thought murdered another ice hockey player on the ice a while ago will not be charged with anything.

20 titles in the bank, already looking forward to next season when it could be 21.

Great result today coming from behind to finish off Spurs.

Did they show the incident MaCarthy got sent off for. I missed the start of the match? Was it a fair sending off?

Quote from: Cyril Farrell fan on April 26, 2025, 11:30:57 PMIt's a disgrace that a Wexford ref is allowed to referee Galway two weeks before we play them. He gave Daithi Burke and Micheál Donoghue red cards. Burke is out for that match. Lee Chin will have a field day.
As a general rule, it's a conflict of interest to have a ref from the county of the next fixture.
However, Galway can have no complaints about the red. When the half time whistle blew Burke pulled down on Duignan and broke a hurl over has head/neck/shoulder. It might be acceptable in Galway club hurling, but it's a red all day at inter county.

Open to correction but the half-time whistle hadn't gone, (why Owens didn't blow when the puck-out was in the air, only he will know), and Dathi was competing for the ball legitimately as it dropped.

As I said previously, Clare a very limited outfit who lucked it big time last season.

That last statement is pure, unadulterated bullshite...

Going to be a long day for Tipp no

No it's not. Clare were further away from Limerick than ever last year, no way would they have beaten them in an AI final. Why Kilkenny didn't put them away in the second half of the semi', only they will know. Barring Kelly and O'Donnell, I doubt they have any other player that would make a best XV of the country.

Kelly and O'Donnell are two exceptional hurlers though. Without them Clare are not the same. Clare were were also without their fullback Cleary and half back Ryan.

A good result for Liverpool. It allows them to win the league on the field at Anfield with just a draw.

100%

It's the weakest league in a long time

Weak or strong I don't care as long as we're winning them. The league being weak is no consolation if we finished second or third.

What a game. The Munster championship can't be beat. I can't beleive Clare came back from 13 points down in that game.

Real Madrid were not at the races tonight. Arsenal missed a penalty and gave Madrid their goal. They still lost 5-1.

76 minutes and no sign of Watkins. Why not?

Congratulations Rory. But he wouldn't have won it without me writing him off a couple of times here tonight.

Quote from: Look-Up! on April 11, 2025, 03:23:20 PMGood to see players with something to offer still wanting to do it on the big stage and not running to Saudi just for the money.

I'm sure he'll be well looked after by Liverpool all the same but overall I'd be very surprised if he's not down considerable money. Fair play to Liverpool too for not panic signing stupid deals (if that's in-fact what they've done) just because of all the media noise.
He's on £480,000 a week... some sacrifice not running off the Saudi  :D  ::)
He's out of contract. With a signing on bonus, wages and no taxes I'd say whatever offer he got in Saudi would dwarf that.

It's still roughly a £50m contract of course but it's over 2 years and he's a proven player. Gives Liverpool some breathing room to find a replacement. You don't want to be handing out too many of those type of contracts, a very dangerous long term strategy. But in the overall context he's an exception and has probably earned it.
We live in different worlds if you think a footballer has 'earned' £480,000 a week and would be justified in leaving to get more money. It's obscene.
How would you even begin to spend that extra money he'd get?

People here love to throw the boot in at soccer players about wages. Do you know how many of the top 100 paid sportsmen in the world are soccer players? Just 12.

36 are basketballers, 22 are NFL, and 11 of the top 100 are b :D loody baseball players. Rory McIlroy makes a more lucrative living than any Premier League player. And nobody mentions any of them being overpaid.
They're all overpaid.. it's this narrative that he didn't take a more lucrative offer... and players on that sort of money negotiating for pay rises  :D
Of course it's obscene but that's the type of money in the game. If it doesn't go to players, who should it go to? At least they put their bodies on the line and pay taxes. If the clubs kept the bulk of it, it would just be siphoned offshore someway.

In a perfect world it should filter down to grassroots, local communities and to player welfare and education for the ones who don't make it, but we don't live in a perfect world.
What I'm saying is the suggestion made above that  he made some sort of sacrifice by not leaving Liverpool for more money is ludicrous. You couldn't spend what he earns.

He will retire in a few years and will need to save some for his pension for the rest of his life.

Brian O'Driscoll was turned down for membership of Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club. Somebody black balled him.
