As opposed to the Old IRA who never carried out murders or robberies etc etc.

Anyway, as I'm sure you well know, Micheal wasn't talking about the IRA activities in the 26. He was talking about the troubles in their entirety. Nor were his remarks down to the "cut and thrust of debate with Mary Lou" as you previously surmised, but in a one-to-one sit-down interview. He simply took exception to the interviewer noting that there were atrocities committed by both sides, and had the brass f**king neck to do so just seconds after accusing SF of trying to rewrite the history of the troubles. There is no excusing his absolutely shameful remarks no matter how hard you might try to obfuscate and misrepresent them.

I don't think I have  the appropriate enough words to justify  what I think  of MM

Don't forget his  comments  when  pushed by Mark  Carruthers on his attendance at an  old IRA commemoration. Apparently they're totally different to  the Troubles era  IRA commemorations  SF attend.

Arsehole.

All good advice, thanks.

Everyone deals with it  differently I suppose. But as someone said, getting another dog  soon after might help  with the loss.  I'm not sure if they will go with that , given  he was  in the family so long , it might feel like they're replacing him  very quickly  without  really grieving. I know that's how I still  feel nearly three years later, after our dog died.

It's just the hours and days in particular , after it that's going to hit them hard.  Getting cushions made  and photos printed  will be done I'm sure,  but it's just the emptiness  immediately afterwards

Anyone got any advice  dealing with the sudden death of  a family dog?

Moreso  the  kids (nephews/nieces). Youngest is 15, dog about 12 or 13,  so  it's been there  most of their lives.  A couple  of them are at  awkward ages , currently dealing with teen/school issues , so this won't help.

I know I was devastated  when our own dog died , so  not sure how to  approach this .

Any advice welcome.

Quote from: Truthsayer on December 05, 2024, 01:12:32 PMMicheal Martin's comments were disgusting... the worst insult to families here still traumatised and grieving loved ones who were murdered by the Glennane Gang, at Ballymurphy, Bloody Sunday, British 'shoot-to-kill' policy, children murdered by British soldiers plastic bullets, Aidan McAnespie and other atrocities right throughout the conflict including collusion with loyalist murder gangs into the 1990s... Sean Brown.. Loughinisland and others... Martin is a despicable man.

Does MM actually  believe what he  said?

Is he really that ignorant of the  north, or  is he just willing to say anything to  keep SF out?

Either way , the fact that a supposed Irishman  came out with  that statement , is utterly disgusting.

Saffron - I had recorded it  from Channel 4 a few weeks ago. Should be on the C4 player , if you can access it

On the killing ,  something doesn't smell right about  it all.

Just finished watching  the documentary on Jean Charles De Menezes, who was shot by police in London in 2005

The story  put out about him  running away from police and  jumping the ticket gate  in the train station, was proven  to have been  made up  by the police .

So, why was he really killed?

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on December 03, 2024, 08:17:41 PMSome craic when the newtownabbey ones and Shankill ones got the Black taxis up the Falls to the Royal hospital..

"Next stop" everyone stares at them in the taxi..

Prods said next stop for Black hacks we just rapped the windy.

With a 50p when I used to get them from Castle street to Cavendish St.

I digress.

Anyone forced to do things like your Easter duty which I think entailed going to confession, visiting the graveyard and stations of the cross?

Was dragged to  confession and stations up until a certain age ,  then said feck that.

Don't believe I've been to confessions in  probably 30 years.  I don't think too many go nowadays do  they? Even the older folk

Graveyards, I would  visit  every few weeks, and on birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas. I'm not religious now , but I  like to visit graves as I think it's important to  remember those  who went before ,  and all they did for us.

Quote from: imtommygunn on December 03, 2024, 10:22:21 AMAbsolutely. About two months ago it looked like they were completely finished and look what happened in that election. This board was just about how they were dropping and they were gone - that , for me , was a big result for them.

On Twitter maybe, and that's not the real world.

You seriously thought SF were finished over the head of an unknown former press officer being suspended by SF (rightly) & a Senator from the North being a creep ?

You may have had unionists up here creaming themselves, it was never going to move the needle with voters in the south

I don't know anyone who thought they were finished, but the conventional wisom was that the election couldn't have come at a worse time for them. I recall reading an Irish Times column which surmised that the election was called earlier than initially planned, purely to take advantage of SF's problems at the time. If you're suggesting that the abolute feeding frenzy on SF in the weeks before the election was entirely unrelated to said election, then I've a bridge to Scotland to sell you.

Finally, some movement on this!  ;)

But yes , it was so  obvious why the election  was called when it was.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on December 03, 2024, 08:47:50 AMIs there a special sign that the ref gives now for a 2 pointer? Instead of the usual arm up, does he put two arms up or does he just give the two fingered sign to the supporters?

Don't you do enough  of that already?  ;D

Quote from: Truthsayer on December 02, 2024, 05:47:54 AMGriffiths from that era when snooker became a huge TV sport. Beat Dennis Taylor in the 1979 World final. The two of them used to tour and do exhibitions after that. Jees! He was slow and boring to watch but a great player. A really nice guy too. RIP.

Flip me,  but he was slow! Seemed a  good character though

Amazing how all those  players from the 80's became  household names.  It really was  snookers heyday.

Wasn't Terry a postman  before turning professional?
