GAA Discussion / Re: Thomas Davis to Fold?
February 21, 2011, 05:03:53 PM
I know nothing of this argument other than unless TDs club members have been wiped out or abducted then folding due to finacial reasons is not possible.  The true value of a club is in its members and if they are willing for the club to go on then it will.  The rest is just trials and tribulations of a club that will be written in their club book in 100 years time

Cracking war film on tonight at c 1am in morning (grrrrrrr!!!!) called Days of Glory about a platoon of Algerians fighting for the French in WW2. Think on ITV and well worth a watch or skyplussing .

Saw Pan's Labyrinth at weekend. Fairy Tale theme type film, well worth a watch imo.
DAYS OF GLORY IS A GREAT SHOW

Would you say the league games are less competitive or is there always a battle for clubs to get promotion

Right just seen this, i started new threaad deleted now.

Fighter is good.  Bale is amazing in it, worth seeing his performance alone.  I heard he is a method actor and stayed in character the whole time during filming and even lived with the guy he is playing for a few weeks.  Crazy bastardo

My recomendations are:

Mesrine
Tell No One (both french sub tittle, both brilliant)
The town, good
The Prestige brilliant

Seen them all recently

no different from last year, it really shouldn't be too difficult to get show a snippet or two of games outside the top division, a goal or two here and there etc.

What was really annoying last night was that they didn't have the score of the game in the top corner of the screen, i presume it was so that viewers didn't see the scores jumping up etc, but it left the viewer (or me anyway), not having a clue as to the state of the game, when goals were scored they flashed the score up alright, but between them, we didn't know what the state of play was.

I agree 100%.
It cant be too hard to show say 2-3 min highlights of each game. And the scores thing...WTF?
Only showing Div1 games in the highlights show is a bit elitist in my view and is unfair to the fans of teams in all the other divisions. Why should a Div4 fan be any less entitled to see at least a small snippet of their games?
And the punditry was dire. Tommy Lyons shouldnt be let near a tv camera. He even managed to have a go at the integrity of the Mayo CB about appointing a manager and then wished them the best! Tool.
100% Agree, the pundits were terrible.  Seriously you could grab better pundits around your club to do it.  Think the league needs more coverage, but it is moving up in improtance as LB states

On the other hand, I'm probably doing Derry a disservice. Tyrone only scored 0-7 from play today compared to Derry's 1-10 from play.

The scores we have scored from play today and in all our 5 games has been the thing which has impressed me the most this season.

Any footage of the games League Sunday didn't provide any coverage at all on this fixture. Was looking to see highlights of the game today and for a view of Emmet McGuckin's superb 1st point. Did Jerome cover today's match?
Stayed up to watch it, and was bloody dissapointed to find it was not to be shown

Fully expect two points agianst the inbreds. Mickey will make sure the lads return home with their first win in Derry for years. A score to be settled.
ManMarker is Castlederg not in Tyrone??

Derry / Re: Derry Hurling
January 19, 2011, 03:26:17 PM
Im a football man but its obvious to see from the club hurling fixtures for championship and league that Hurling is treated with contempt, just my opinion, so I can see why hurlers would be a bit pissed off with CB

We will just have to agree to disagree.  For as i can see that they were stupid to breach the rule and rules should be respected i will never think that is fair to strip a club, a parish a community of an ulster tittle on the back of playing someone who is eneligible because they are considered too young to play at that level.  The rule does absoultely nothing to protect from player burn out i remember coaching under 16s and a pile of players landed to the match on their bikes, they had just cycled back from the beach which was 15 miles away!  You will not stop young cubs running about flat to the mat if they want to.

I made my view clear about it on an early thread.  I would be of the same opinion as you Lynchbhoy.  Rules have to be respected but the punishment should also equal the crime.  I was talking to a mate from the our club and he said they had similar issues in rugby in Newzealand so rather than play by age group they played by weight.  If you were the right weight you played at the right level.  It stopped man childs from dominating at underage and helped them improve as they played at their particular level instead.  Is this not something that could be looked at?

Did McGourty opt out the list???  I read the Irish news everyday and the propaganda has me believing he must be one of the best in the land
