Billy Mac and the other coaches will do a good job with whoever is sent up. But forever kid that is selected for this so-called Academy, another (who feels hard done by) quits the game forever. Kids don t tolerate that muck - they see right through it.  I ve probably mentioned it before, but it's worth saying again. A club that struggled to give kids game time with 2 U12 teams were ringing around to try and get an U16 team for championship. Several players quit when they were divided into the have and have -nots and in fairness did not go back. Nepotism has not gone away. Contrary and pushy parents still rule the roost. Some of the kids are just being hawked and others are turned off for good. Too many young lads with potential are quitting because they are rejected. Resources are lavished on others that are being pushed and most amount to little enough.

Ha, this was exactly how it played out for myself. Like to think I have natural enough athletic ability but remember not being arsed going at the way it panned out U-12/14 even though I was still mad about football.
Still remember being lined up,about 40 of us on the steps in front of the clubhouse..one coach just went a tapped a lad on the head and he went off with the "As" and the rest were left to pack into cars and head off to another match. No reason given and I distinctly remember the "As" being made up of 2 town league clubs at the time....while the other 3 town league teams made up the "B" team. No joke, if you're from Ballina...you won't find it hard to work out what I'm on about ::)

Quick guess would be Pat's & Fitzgerald's  ;)

Incorrect!

That was the case at underage in my day. That and it being about who you were more than what you could do. To be fair that wasn't always the case we had a decent spread of players from all over the town league clubs for the most of part bar United where players from that area usually gave up around the the age of 16 or so

Any word yet on who these 20 guys mentioned by P&N are for strength and conditioning programmes?

From Ballina you have Regan and Alex Corduff.

Looking forward to tomorrow after missing the game last week and also looking forward to visiting limerick as i've never been there before. On the keegan issue sure isn't there many a man walking about the country today who've had more serious cases thrown out of court because of a technicality on Garda reports  ;D Seriously looking forward to the game i've watched the drawn game back twice this week and will probably have another view of it again tonight just to whittle away a few hours  :)

So Kagawa is lining up to go back to Dortmund, Nani gone back to Sporting Lisbon on loan and Zaha gone back to Palace on loan. They're all going back to where we got them from...Anyone got Porto's number!! The only way to get rid of Anderson at this stage is to raffle him...

Haha they were actually linked with him the same week Nani left!

A relation of mine used to captain a boat that took people down the River Moy on fishing trips and i used to help out as a young kid working as a bait boy cutting up bits of mackerel for the fishermen/women. Met a fair few famous people on these trips most notably Eric Clapton Pete Postelwaithe who played Guiseppi in the film In The Name Of The Father and Emlyn Hughes who used two played for Liverpool and England who became a very good friend of our family until he passed away

Aiden O'Shea needs to be at centre field from the start on Saturday. He looked lost in the first half and constantly out of position. In the second half he played midfield and was the main driving force for the team. He needs and thrives on the responsibility of ball winner and carrier alongside the brother. Dont think he does that at centre half forward. They need go forward momentum from the statr and he provides that. I thought either he or Colm Boyle were MOM on sunday. I would put Tom Parsons centre half forward to give an extra physical presence there, he too is a good ball carrier. The team I would go with would be:

Hennelly
Cunniffe
Cafferky
Higgins
Feeney
Vaughan
Boyle
O'Shea
O'Shea
McLoughlin
Parsons
Doherty
O'Connor
Andy Moran
Dillon.

I would envisage possibly 3 changes to the Mayo team....Andy in for Freeman and Barrett in for Keegan unless his red card is rescinded. This would mean Vaughan going to wing back from midfield and Parsons coming in for Gibbons at midfield with Barrett going corner back.

Unfortunately for the first time in a long time i will be not attending a Mayo game but i suppose the couch will have to do or maybe a bar stool. On the game it's one i'm cautiously optimistic about it. I say cautiously because it's Kerry and no matter what 15 players they line out with they are extremely talented. People say they're in a transition period which i agree with but on the day, with their tradition and skill level they have just a good of a chance as we do. It's a game that's too close to call given the team news in the last 24 hours i would slightly favour us but something tells me the teams that are named wont be the teams that start the game. More often than not games are decided in the 3rd quarter but i see this one coming down to who has it in them in the last 10 minutes with impact subs playing a key role. I'm hoping like every other Mayo supporter that its our "middle 8" that decides the result of the tie as its the key area in stopping the platform for Kerry attacks and putting us on the front foot where we can get a decent spread of scores. Heres hoping we're still alive and kicking in the championship sunday night!

Purely my own speculation here but if Welbeck were to leave and Hernandez as well would that mean we intend on getting Di Maria and switching to a 4-3-3 formation with Rooney and RVP battling it out for main striker and young Wilson as 3rd choice back up? As i said just my own thoughts on it but could make sense!

I would have thought given the new system that a centre half would have signed rather quickly to get him used to the system. With the new season starting next week I'm rather worried that all LVG's eggs are in the one basket trying to sign Vermaelen who as reports are saying Arsne Wenger is only willing to sell abroad and not to a rival!
