Ziggy you just reminded me of an excellent book - McCarthys Bar.
The guy who wrote the book is now dead god rest his soul, but a great story and will probably mention a few watering holes you will all know. Think that the authors name was "pete?" McCarthy
Tbc....

I mentioned it somewhere before with a bit of a review but i thought "Mao: The Unknown Story" is the most powerful biography i have ever read, indeed the most powerful book, period.

On a completely different level, reading "Should have got off at Sydney Parade" at the moment. Have never read as much as a paragraph of any of the Ross O'Carroll Kelly stuff before either in a previous book or in the Sunday Tribune but i think it is absolutely hilarious. Just after leaving it down with a paragraph ending with a line describing how hard this rugby full back was:
"the goy was harder than a blind lezzer's nipples in a fish morket"   :) ;D

Get this;
Minister of magic
Mad eye Moody
and wait for it Snape himself dies in Harry Potter.

Apparently Harry and Ginny have kids as do Ron and Hermione.

Tubberman

Of Mice and Men - One of my all-time favourites
East of Eden - Also been meaning to read this

Cannery Row
Travels With Charley
In Search of America

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."

McCarthys bar was great but will stick to fiction here.

1) Lord of the Rings
2) As the Crow Flies (Archer)
3) Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy
4) Kane and Abel (Archer)
5) Life of Pi

As with songs and films, no doubt I am forgetting some real classics, Jules Vernes are still a pretty good read in this day and age.

Amongst Women (John McGahern)
Sweet Liberty:Travels in Irish America (Joe O'Conner)

I'm not a soccer fan at all, but got the Paul McGrath book at christmas as a kris kindle present.
Is it worth bothering with as a non soccer fan?

I have heard good reports, but would you need to be a real fan to appreciate it?
