QuoteIs Higgins ahead because he's the most harmless and aged of the lot?

Harmless - has not been associating with rapists and people who blow up women and children
Many people regard this as an advantage, to be sure.

Aged - has had a lot of relevant experience
Not a bad thing either.
....and like it or not,After the stately McAleese and Robinson-  the rest of the world will look at Michael D and think the same way they think about the inda kinny lead gov ...this the 'cheap' option Ireland are taking for austerity purposes !
I don't understand this at all. How or why is Michael D a 'cheap' option? How would his election be 'for austerity purposes'? And if he is the 'cheap' option, who is the 'expensive' option (or whatever the opposite of 'cheap' is in this case)?

For the record, I wouldn't consider Michael D to appear any less 'stately' that McAleese or Robinson.

Looks like a smart move by Mary Davis to disclose her finances - stops a 'drip, drip' of details in the press over the duration of the campaign.

http://www.thejournal.ie/mary-davis-releases-full-tax-filings-and-encourages-other-candidates-to-follow-suit-243849-Oct2011/

Her challenge for the other candidates to do likewise could also be interesting.

Won't affect wee Marty, he's on an industrial wage and lives in a council estate. Not much to see there ;)

Is her position as head of the Special Olympics (salary €156k in 2010) a full time job?  If so where the feck does she get the time to sit on all these boards?

He has already stated that he will happily disclose both his own personal finances and the SF finances, in response to Gay "the personality" Mitchell's latest gaffe on Newstalk yesterday where he lambasted McGuinness for not revealing that he also takes an MP salary, before being politely informed that being an abstentionist MP, he in fact isn't even entitled to such a salary " ;)::)

Reminds me of the person writing in the Irish News with the usual groundless lazy journalism, where they questioned how McGuinness afforded his Donegal holiday home, then the following day, a retraction article appears acknowledging that McGuinness does not in fact own a holiday home anywhere.

Where are you getting the €156k from?

EDIT: Just checked my link and the €156k is all earnings, including position within Special Olympics Ireland. The role of Chairperson (or Board member) generally isn't a full-time job.

Only going on the basis of my link above from the Journal:

The P60s – which cover each of the last three calendar years – detail Davis's earnings for each of the last three years, including her salary from her Special Olympics appointments and other appointments:

2010: Gross pay of €156,310; paying €9,912 in employee's PRSI and €56,248.08 in income tax

In the North anyway, is a P60 not issued by the employer (in this case Special Olympics) detailing the amount of tax paid by the employee?  Maybe in the South it's different and it's more like a tax return listing all income??  If you read the declaration above the words "Employer's Name" it would seem that this refers to her Special Olympics postion...note the words "blah blah blah in this employment"

The Strule Arts Centre, Omagh had an event with Martin McGuinness last night. Packed auditorium and over two hundred people had to be turned away at the door.

I wonder will Gay "the personality" Mitchell (of the self titled "United Ireland Party"), or any of the other candidates bother visiting the north or will they stick to the "22 counties" where people are allowed to vote.
