Quote from: seafoid on March 26, 2024, 09:59:17 PMNobody knew what was in store this time last year. Monaghan got to the semi final last year and were relegated recently. Did their form fall off a cliff or did they do things differently this year so far?

Monaghan were missing too many of last year All-Ireland semi final team and no surprise they got relegated. Get the majority of those players back and they should at least reach the last 8 this summer.

Quote from: seafoid on March 26, 2024, 09:22:38 PMLast year Roscommon did a lot of pre season training and hit the ground running in the league, winning 3 on the trot. They ran out of gas over 8 days in June, losing 2 matches by a point.
This year Brigids got to the all Ireland final and Roscommon didn't care about the league ....

Don't think it was possible to do a alot of training last year before the league when the appointment was made so late and wasn't Burke still involded with Maynooth college?

Would have cared about that league and it simply became uphill challenge to avoid relegation once they lost to Tyrone in round 1 and only drew with Galway at home in round 2.

Roscommon last year played a controlled possession based game making them competitive against all Div 1 teams in league and championship. Since the Dublin draw in May and the daft media talk that followed it they have gone away from that. Burke has come out since to say that way of playing wasn't his style which suggests it was the style of one if not two of the coaches that left.

This year are a disjointed and unorganized team.  They are currently a team that don't make themselves hard to score against and a forward line that struggling without Ben O'Carroll,Ciaran Murtagh and Cian McKeon.  Lack of midfield also with Eddie Nolan opting out and Keith Doyle injured. No surprise with all of that Roscommon were relegated and it will be a struggle for Davy Burke to turn things around and to get much of impact out of his team the upcoming championship.

Quote from: armaghniac on March 25, 2024, 07:51:07 PMThe Paddy Power Ranking

Dublin 13/8
Kerry 5/2
Derry 11/2
Galway 9/1
Mayo 10/1
Armagh 20/1
Donegal 22/1
Tyrone 25/1
Roscommon 80/1
Cork 100/1
Monaghan 100/1

I'm not sure that Galway/Mayo are hugely better than Armagh/Donegal/Tyrone but one of them will be Connacht champions and that has seeding advantages.

Wouldn't totally rule out Roscommon out. Won Connacht in 2017 and 2019 off the back of Division one relegation.

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on March 24, 2024, 05:52:02 PMRead nothing into it, that always the forming line when a team hammered.  Tyrone aren't near to the level of Dublin. I read plenty into it.
Dublin are ahead of everyone at the minute,  that's probably obvious enough. Tyrone aren't as shite as that scoreline makes them look.

Didn't see the game today though in the recent past I've seen Tyrone get positive results against Dublin in the league. A trimming like today's 21-point demolition usual happens when the opposition drops the heads making it easy to clock up a big score against them.    Dublin five wins in a row after losing their two opening games. Before today they won by a margin 7,10,5,8 points I was not expecting them to clock a margin of victory like that until the leinster championship.

Kildare seven games and seven defeats is unbelievable in Division 2 outside of the top two that was far from great this year.

Only two years ago they were playing in Div 1 unlucky to do down as they drew with Kerry and beat Dublin.

Can lose and still stay up and if they do that point earned in Hyde Park will prove to be a vital one.

The Clifford brothers not named to start against Galway, Jack O'Connor has looked at the table and knows it will be a Derry  v Dublin final.

It would be worth Southgate becoming manager just to get that idiot off the social media, he's an absolute dose.

Total dose and has been called out on numerous occasions for some of his bullshit.

That being said I would not be a fan of appointing Southgate.

He's Alan Partridge like in his delivery and many people including many non United fans love him. He quit his job (policeman) to become very wealthy from his self created youtube fan channel and the sensationalism shite that is talksport employed him. Goes to show all that is needed to become famous and rich nowadays.

Quote from: Bord na Mona man on March 17, 2024, 08:39:13 PMSometimes adversity, or desperation brings out the best in a team.
Conceding two deflected goals, a patchwork defence, eventually with Bruno standing in at centre half. Maguire, Antony, Diallo and Maguire the unlikely heroes off the bench.

Liverpool looked electric for a while around when they plundered the two goals, but they were flat for long parts too.

It could be a sliding door moment in the two clubs' fortunes.
When Klopp goes, the underinvestment from Liverpool's tightwad owners will likely be laid bare.
A rebuild is needed anyway with Salah and Van Dijk nearing the exit.
In the 11 years since Ferguson retired and Utd imploded, Liverpool have only plundered a single league title, and when the Klopp fog clears, that shouldn't be viewed as hectic by any standard.

On the other hand, the INEOS regime at Utd have changed course and started to assemble a back office of people with a successful track record in running clubs, unlike the Goldman Sachs banker types which the Glazers had running the show.

The decade of damage done by the Glazers since Ferguson retired will be no short term fix by INEOS it will likely take years to be competitive and a consistent top team again with plenty of transfer window business required.

I wouldn't say it's been underinvestment by Liverpool as they  have spent big when needed and make good money on their transfers out. Michael Edwards was as good behind the scenes as Klopp was a manager and they are a club with the right structures in place whereby they should find the right and suitable replacement. Edwards left and now coming back with Klopp going suggests a fall out between the two however.

Going back to yesterday's cup classic. A deserved win as in the 1st half and all of extra time United was the better team in that match.  Liverpool was rather fortunate to be leading at half time so that somewhat balanced itself out for not scoring 2nd half. I think the deflected goal for Liverpool was their only shot on goal in extra time.  2-3 behind and winning 4-3 with a back four of Dalot,Maguire,Bruno Fernandez,Antony was truly remarkable. Very few teams from that situation would push on to win.

Could be sliding doors moment for Ten Hag, a good first season for him and this season has been hampered by injuries and remains to be seen how he does if and when the club gets proper structures in truth few would have done much better with the cards he's been dealt with.

Hard to read much out of the Derry v Mayo match if it was a championship match between the two no chance would both have defended so poorly.  Derry probably should rest players for round 7 before the final now and  It should be Dublin they'll play in that final.

Kerry are off to Portugal a few days after the round 7 match and unlikely to be going all out against Galway. Monaghan went down fighting has been some ten years for them, Roscommon will join them in Div 2 the opening round games v Tyrone,Galway and only picking up one point proved costly for them.

Probably but at least it extends the season to the end of May should they overcome Coventry city managed by a certain Mark Robins. Season was done and dusted with a defeat today, can't see Chelsea troubling City.

Up there with the all time classic cup games. Tbh didn't think that group of United players had it in them what a way to win and cup magic moment for Amad Diallo.

Quote from: yellowcard on March 05, 2024, 05:29:43 PMIt could be a big deal for a smaller county but there are no prizes for getting to semi finals. It can often come down to the luck of the draw in a cup competition. The only metric should be when your county last actually won an AI title.

That's true. The OP for whatever reason seems to have a strange obsession with Roscommon.
