Schoolgirl rapist shot in attack

The attack happened in the Rosemount Gardens area of Derry

The man shot in both legs in a paramilitary-style attack in Londonderry was awaiting sentencing for raping a 15-year-old schoolgirl.

Keith Burnside, 37, from Rosemount Gardens was convicted in March of raping a girl in his car at Sandbank Cottages in 2000.

Two masked men entered his home in Rosemount Gardens at about 2315 BST on Monday and fired a number of shots.

He suffered injuries to both legs, and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Community worker Tommy McCourt said such incidents made people fearful of a return to violence. "It takes you back to the bad old days," he said.

"We believed that those days had passed and nobody wants to see this kind of thing happening again."

SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey also condemned the attack. "The people who carried out this shooting have no support from the local community and no place in a civilised society," he said.

The police said that those responsible were of slim build and wore tracksuits, baseball caps, and scarves over their faces.

The first man was 5ft 10ins and the second 6ft 2ins.

They want anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the men to contact them. - BBC

Youngfella his lack of pace!

Karl also seems to be suffering from the notion that he is too loose to play at CHB, he doesnt mark tight enough. The point is that he is the best natural CHB we have and he should be allowed to play there.

Whos lack of Pace nag? Pinkys all he would have to do is play a spoiler role
Agree with you totally about Karl should be playing CHB, however i have heard good reports about mc auley playing number 6, hes still quite young tho.

Were there many booking yesterday?

forgive me for repeating myself, but why was neal mc auley not playing CHB at the game? Thought he has be steady all year.
If my history is correct Karl mc Keegan has had some of his finest games in at antrim shirt at CHB, why not put him there and give Graffin a chance out the wing.

Kerrys CHB was too physical for McManus? Move pinky on to him and tell him to break the ball and have paddy doc sniffing around trying to pick up the loose ball. Simple game.

Surpised to see mc auley missing for the number 6 spot. Hes normally steady enough and straong under a high ball. Is he injuryed or just dropped?
Was mc garry (keeper) sent off? I'd be tempted to have joey scullion in place of eddie, joey a got a bit more strengh to him and hes handy at sidelines.

agree with MR about full back being the play for hippy.

This has come from a very reliable source, its true. KK have the depth in there squad for Cody to be able to do this, the players also have enough respect (fear of being dropped) to do what there told. Cant imagine the fella in question giving Cody a drunken abusive phonecall like some Antrim premadonnas....

Hurling Discussion / Brian cody story

I heard this story before the tipp game thought i would share it.

The lads are in getting changed, Cody is setting up the drills. As the lads start coming out of the dressing up, Cody sees one of the fellas is wearing white football boots. Cody walks over to your man and tells him, go and change them boots or ye wont be training. This fella is stunned but instantly runs back to the dressing to change his boots!

When the fella returns codys says to the team, white boots are for posers!
