It will be interesting to see how  James Kavanagh gets on with Galway this year. Can be a great player on his day, probaly lacked consistency in the past.

Very experimental team for Sligo but that's what the fbd is for.  Well done pat for giving many of these players a chance to wear a county jersey?

What time is the game at?
I used to be indecisive but now I'm not too sure.

Galway 3-10 Sligo 0-8

Decent game given the conditions and time of year. James Kavanagh got man of the match. Only scored 0-1 but did play very well in general play setting up others. Eoin Concannon must have been close to it as well. Think he scored 2-1 or 2-2. Michael Martin played well in spells. New Galway captain Paul Conroy continued his impressive form from last year. Frizzel kicked some nice frees for Sligo.

Nice to see, probably under-rated outside Kildare but superb on his day. No doubt will lose the robot tag now that he has found the natural footballer inside himself.

We had very few players available and were level with ITS about ten times in the match. 1-14 against what is a decent side in these conditions wasn't bad but the main this was we didn't suffer any major injuries and we got a good work-out.

Do worry about players doing double duty so early in the year with so many games to come - Conor Daly started for the U21s and the seniors this weekend.

Defence still our achilles heel, 17 points conceded today in truth it could have been much more if we can't keep the scores down we'll continue to struggle for wins. On a positive note our forward line created and scored freely & Donie Shine who played mostly around the middle is coming into form and he'll hopefully stay injury free this year. The debut lads Ronan Stack,C Murtagh,Nally had decent games others Kelly,Burns found it tough.
The key to success is to be consistently competitive -- if you bang on the door often it will open

We coped well enough with D3 attacks last year - second lowest overall in points conceded, one less than the Farneys - to be promoted if we had a cutting edge.

Attacking play is the problem, we have talented players but apart from 2011 they never have synced up correctly. Not getting stuffed on the 45 of the opposition in D3 is going to be what defines our year. That's an epidemic in D3 football and the team that can break fast and with some semblance of a game-plan will almost surely win the given match. We allow teams to set their defences far too easily.

Evans has a good defensive head on his shoulders and he's already shown that last year. If the play moving forward improves this year we'll be going somewhere. We have players that should be able to get more than 10-13 points a game in D3 and what we scored today should be what we're targeting as an average for the league.

Don't know how you make that out, we had 10 championship starters from last summer playing today.

Ian Kilbride, David Keenan, Enda Smith, Finneran, Donie Smith, Paddy Brogan injured. Mango not available. Senan Kilbride, Darren O'Malley, Ward on the bench. Compton, Caff started for DCU last night so not really options today.

Seven players made their senior debuts today.

I still think compared to previous years in FBD we had plenty of players available - the reality is that there is always be a handful of injuries to carry. Did Conor Daly not play for U21 yesterday rather than for DCU? I thought the DCU starters were Caff, Compton and Fintan Kelly coming on.

Yeah, you're right. Was mixing up the U21 and DCU games so I fixed it.

It was a typical FBD line-up from what I could see. Evans will just be rotating the panel the next game and probably name as strong a side as he can for the Mayo game to get prep for the Longford tie.
