General discussion / Re: Irelands Nicest place

Rossglass, Killough, County Down.

Probably more of an emotional attachment for myself. Nonetheless, a nice part of the world. If the spides aren't about that is.

General discussion / Re: Ireland's grimmest place

Has anyone been in Lurgan lately? I see it has featured a lot on here.

They've invested thousands in the last 2/3 years on public realm work that is still ongoing. The town centre is actually quite pleasant now IMO. Granted one or two estates might be intimidating to outsiders, the place isn't as bad as people make out.

Nrico, you said Derrytrasna. Why on earth did you put Derrytrasna, there's nothing to the place! A few houses, a chapel and a school!

Virtually everywhere will have areas that make it look like a shithole. Special mentions though for Belfast (N,S,E and W), Larne, Derry, Coleraine, Ballymena, Craigavon, Newry, Dundalk,

Firstly, I have to say that it is promising that after ten years some Tyrone posters (nrico2006, Fuzzman) can accept that Marsden was not acting maliciously and that Jordan was the antagonist and thus culpable for the incident in question.

Secondly, I would not be of the school of thought that Armagh would have definitely won that day if Diarmaid had have stayed on. I think on the day that the better team won. What I will say, is that your maiden victory was in my eyes, completely and totally tainted by Philip Jordan's unnecessary behaviour that day (diving is the preserve of over-paid soccer playing fannies - as is clapping a red card ie Gormley)

Finally, on the incident itself. To strike someone, normally you approach them and lean into them with the momentum of doing so being used to hurt them. Even a Tyrone poster kindly put a picture of the incident up. The man with the clenched fist is Jordan. Marsden doesn't even have a finger on him. Both players look as if they've been knocked back; Marsden from Jordan running at him and Jordan from his split second decision to dive and have an opposing player sent off.

This argument reminds me a lot of the Unionists, they argue that a black crow is white, when the whole world knows it's black. Is it not telling that Tyrone folk see things differently than 31 other counties?

Marsden threw a punch there was no cheating. He was stupid and gave the ref no option. Whether it was self defence or not is immaterial. Discipline let mars den down and the ref done the right thing. Tyrone were 5 points a better team and if anything Armagh raised their game after being putrid throughout.
He didn't throw a punch. Not a player that was ever known for indiscipline either. Jordan ran at him and he raised his hands. Jordan fell to the ground like a ginny ann as if he'd been ko'd.

If it was a clear cut strike/punch and there for all to see, as Tyrone men here like to claim, why on earth had he the audacity to go and (successfully) appeal it?

Jordan made a d1ck of himself and whatever about Tyrone's outstanding successes since 03, that one incident for me will forever epitomise how pathetic certain Tyrone players' behaviour was during that era (Wildweasel kindly highlights a few others).

Armagh / Re: Armagh Club football & hurling

Enjoyed last night, a good test for a depleted Cross, Maghery will probably rue a few chances early on but I thought they were excellent to come back from 6 pts down to enter half time level.

From their perspective halftime probably came too soon as they had their tails up at that stage and Cross were starting to lose focus a bit getting involved with handbags etc. It was telling that Maghery stayed on the pitch to let Cross go in first to avoid potential fisticuffs in the tunnel, usually it is Cross that do that!

The second half wasn't as good as the first, Maghery showed inexperience conceding silly scorable frees as well as having other frees moved in for petulance, criminal if you're to have any chance of beating Cross. This inevitably led to them having a 4/5 point cushion that they were never really going to relinquish in the final ten. Maghery had a genuine shout for a penalty turned down and instead a free out given; thems the kind of breaks that Cross seem to always get but as they say you make your own luck. Can't see them beat in the final in any case, not sure how they'll progress in Ulster though.

You would think so, but they only beat Maghery by 5 last year in the quarter final, with a stronger team and Maghery not as well developed as they are this year. Price is about right at evens with a minus 5

Looked at that result and also took into account the hammering they give Pearse Og's (the second favs) Was talking to an Antrim lad that took the game in, he said Cross were very good that day, Og's started well in both half's and Cross blew them away in mid way through both half's

Must have been at a different game to me, Cross never got out of second gear, not one person turned up for the Ogs, they were truely awful throughout the team.

He sai they started brightly, did they score first few scores each half?  Cross were very good or rubbish?
I thought Cross were rubbish too, Ogs started brightly alright but Cross got goals at vital times that killed the game, Ogs just collapsed after. If Cross played like that again tonight I'd nearly fancy Maghery, but in all truth, anything other than a comfortable Cross victory will be a major shock.

I'm probably in the same boat as you although I am younger than 30   :P

Not as lucky with injuries though, have had to endure two frustrating injuries (and before that a suspension) that meant I couldn't get close to playing any senior championship football in the last 3 years. I last played a league match about a fortnight ago, prior to that I hadn't trained in roughly 5/6 weeks due to injury that ruled me out of this years championship and which I played with for our last game. Suffice to say I was in some pain in the days after that match, even though I was still injured I never felt as unfit in my life.

What I did around October/November last year was join the gym. I made a point of going at least every other day, nothing serious weights-wise just a bit of everything to try and tone up a bit; complementing this with 5k runs at least once/twice a week, doing the same run each time and trying to reduce my time. Continued this up until and including pre-season (our club usually start late January), though I wasn't as fit as I'd have liked to have been.

This year I want to do the same though I think I will try it without the gym membership as I feel I have enough equipment at home to make use of. I would say 5k is more than enough to try and build your stamina, a rough guess I'd say I'd probably do it in 25 mins the shape I am in at the minute, I would hope to aim to reduce that by 5 mins before Christmas (ambitious enough).

The sprints is something I'm not sure about, I never did any sprint work at all last year but I'm sure it couldn't hurt to do a few, I always found the weather a bit of an obstacle with frost etc anytime I considered it. What our midfielders did this year after training was do 5 or so 3/4-pace runs from the halfway to the byline, not sprints but good exercises for the position they play. You could possibly do something similar to that on your own?

Be a shame now if Tír na nÓg didn't go all the way.

When is the last time a team went unbeaten in competitive football all year in Armagh? Did Cross do it in the last few years?

Killeshandra v Shercock in Cavan final this day fortnight. Too close to call. Both beat the odds to win their semis. Can't see either make much inroads in Ulster.

Armagh winners would be good tip for Ulster JFC. Two Down teams left won't make any inroads.
Would agree with this.

Both Junior finalists in Armagh played Division 2 Intermediate league football this season, with Annaghmore finishing second and assured promotion to Senior football for next year. Clonmore finished midtable. Both near neighbours so no love lost when they face off in the final.

Between them, the Monaghan winners and Tyrone winners that will go on and win it IMO. Tyrone have a team in the semis that were Senior not too long ago.

IFC semi-final replay: Tír na nÓg 2-14 Naomh Pól 3-6

Tír na nÓg v Madden in the Armagh IFC final.

Admittedly Tyrone IMO were probably the better team that day, even if it had stayed 15 v 15 I think they'd have won.

But there was no need to cheat to win that day. Like others said, the first one was tainted. Youse cheated to win it!

At least we have better club football!

Sure there must be some Tyrone in the water up about Maghery.
That would explain a lot.

Did Portadown play well? Didn't make the game, was the 5 point margin deserved?

Most people had the winners of this game as favourites for the final but I have a sneaky suspicion that Madden will win.
