From Rosenallis to The Rock to Rhode and back again – the amazing career of Mark Dunne https://www.laoistoday.ie/2019/11/22/from-rosenallis-to-the-rock-to-rhode-and-back-again-the-amazing-career-of-mark-dunne/

Am I missing something here... a laois man been honoured for playing for offaly...which one is their actual club as the 3 have been in different counties also?.. also any1 know of any1 else that has worn both county colours as with the rivalry between both it sounds unusual ? I taught if this happened they would be outcasted and not honoured..

Its my opinion and may be nonsense to some people... I'll put it this way..last year we had Billy o loughlin, kerry had jack o connor. This year we have eddie kinsella, kerry have john surgue. It's a very important grade to transition players from underage to senior and we need to appoint well established experienced managers if that means we have to head out of our own county.

Any more developments on the rumour that started around here that Eddie Kinsella is new U-20 manager? If it's true I think that it is a solid appointment. Kinsella was involved with St Paul's for many years and would know the underage scene well.

He's also helped a talented crop of Courtwood youngsters develop into potential inter-county footballers, with Niall Dunne being the prime example.

kinsella was a surprise choice for me here, won only an intermediate with courtwood but has a serious panel of young players to choose from, jsut winning 1 title with a team like that does not make you an intercounty manager, same with rosenallis, great crop of young players but you dont have to be the greatest manager to win with them as they won both hurling and football because of the players, clonaslee a few years back had a great bunch of players and they won both grades with the same manager over both codes, portlaoise over the past 10-15 years could have brough any1 in to manage them and they would have won laois senior due to the quality of the players.

ill be shot for mentioning soccer here but pep over man city or klopp over liverpool is easy coach, what about a pep or klopp over norwich, would they win, no because they dont have the quality of player

same with clancy gone back to ballyroan abbey, relegation play off from intermediate with timahoe this year and now back trying to coach seniors, no sense in it apart from money

we need to look at the bigger picture when appointing coaches and not just base it on a guy that wins a title with a very good crop of young players.

Adds a whole other dimension to Portlaoise. He takes risks, sure, but he keeps the game flowing and is a capable player too. As a team, they have yet to ignite under Rigney. They might yet do so, but Rigney himself doesn't look like a good fit for them even though I thought he would be. As I say, that might change, but form suggests Eire Og should fancy their chances. Potentially the competition looks a little weaker this year, but unfortunately so do Portlaoise. Maybe they've been timing their run, but up front, they have looked shy. Bruno understandably is not as effective, and there are no other big scorers in there. Their teamwork and spirit has got them to here. Let's hope there's another gear in them
every1 is of the opinion that portlaoise is on the decline but still no team has been able to beat them as yet so maybe they not on decline at all but just playing within themselves and getting over the line, risky thing to do tho and i agree with above, rigney is not the man for portlaoise, a great sportsman but this is not the job for him

its a fair point but i do think it comes down to how a person performs in a final as the selection committee is normally present at a final.  all award winners i think come from the county champions in that grade which would leave me to believe it is based on the final alone

good year for r/e and laois hurling in general.  i taught roddy did not get involved as much as he shoulr for such a talented hurler, mark kavanagh head and shoulders above every1 else.

There needs to be a hurling specific GDA employed within Portlaoise to work with the schools and club to reinvigorate hurling within the town. The club need a bottom up approach/strategy with meaningful long term goals-set clear/obtainable targets e.g have underage teams all playing at and competing for titles at A championship level by 2024. The demise of Portlaoise hurling is not a quick fix.

It is disappointing that a town of now well over 20,000 cannot supply one current inter-county hurler to starting county team or be at least competitive at senior level within Laois. Cahir is 34 next year and coming off serious injuries- he has been the last really noteworthy hurler that Portlaoise has produced.

Has the move from beside o moore park to well outside the town in rathleague affected  the club in anyway as now juveniles cannot get out unless they are driven by their parents and in this fast hectic society maybe parents cannot get out with the kids either,

beside o moore park it was within walking and cycling distance for them and now the senior teams are been affected?

no surprise to see courtwood emo here in the final as we did predict them strong from the start. i fancy them to go on a win it now. it would be a good year for them if they did and also the future is bright following their minor success.

both them and rosenallis with the quality of young players are ones to watch for the future

rosenallis have had easier draws all along the club championship and the same in the leinster championship so i would not see them stumbling agains the kk champs.  dublin club football outside of senior is not strong at all and also they could have taken the kk football team to lightly and got caught on the hop. rosenallis still fresh as no real hard games and its a definite final for them to cap off a good year.

quirk will get nothing out of that divisional set up, any one that has impressed in it also impressed with their club in the championship and again i have to question the taught behind it after a long season and with leinster and u 20 running.
