Could be a short thread.  Antrim relegated to Div 4, away to Donegal, 3rd in Div 1.  Donegal by 12.

Hoping for a comfortable six or seven point win after a decent league.

Do Antrim play the blanket these days? We've plenty of speed in the team this year with all the new lads.

Deferred tv coverage too, but I guess at least its on.

Not sure how we are on availability - Paul Brennan, the former Leitrim player who was lining out at wing back is out with a hand injury, while Stephen McBrearty is heading stateside for the summer.

Be prepared for a blanket!

Otherwise known as a vain attempt to keep the score down!

..and it looks like Matthew Fitzpatrick will definitely miss the game!

What happened here?? You certainly wouldn't see a Kerry/Dublin player get this? Yet again different rules for minows of GAA. If this happened in August would be brushed under the carpet. Kieran McGeeney get 3 month ban. Jack O'Connor abuses referee and other match officials and no action taken.

Yeah I tend to think that it is somewhat easier to punish the minnows and even use them to make an example.

Or else it is aimed at taking away one of our best scorers to improve Donegal's chances of an upset on Sunday.

Anyone at all know what the lad fitzpatrick did to warrant a 48 week ban? nobody i've talked to seems to know.  I know there is the disrupting the investigation rubbish but initially what was supposed to have happened?

This is the GAA statement:

"On the 15th of May the Central Hearings Committee decided that at a hearing on the 4 May that Matthew Fitzpatrick gave deliberately false evidence and deliberately misled the hearing, a breach of rule 7.3.  The CHC imposed a suspension of 48 weeks.  Antrim manager Frank Fitzsimons and selector Pat Hughes were warned as to their future conduct arising out of evidence they gave at the same hearing.  All parties have the option of appealing against the decisions of the Central Hearings Committee to the Central Appeals Committee."

Fitzpatrick was initially banned for one game for striking an opponent off the ball during the Div 3 league game against Armagh.  What happened after that is being discussed in detail on the Antrim Football board (though not with any degree of clarity - and I include my own contributions in that!)

It's hard to believe that back in 2009 Antrim beat Donegal in Ballybofey and went on to lose the Ulster final to Tyrone and lost to Kerry by 5 points in the quarter final.

Not many back then would have thought Donegal would have won an all-Ireland in the following 3 years.
Antrim's previous Ulster final was away back in 1970, losing to Derry.

That was actually a qualifier, but yes, that all seems very long ago!
