Quote from: lfdown2 on September 10, 2024, 05:03:18 PMI wonder does this proposal remove automatic entry to the Sam Maguire for the Tailteann Cup winner, with entry based on the league positions and provincial championships only?

No will be part of The eight teams in Round 2A.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Easttyrone23

Kerry 3/1
Dublin 10/3
Donegal 13/2
Galway 15/2
Derry 8/1
Armagh 9/1
Mayo 12/1
Tyrone 14/1
Bar 33/1
(Boylesports)

In terms of the bookies odds it's the most open championship in a long time.

Won't be easy to predict the two teams to get relegated from Division one next year.

The big question  is why wait to 2026 to change format.

Rushing through changes doesn't work. Extensive evaluation required and put in meaningful changes.

Reason given was that Galway footballers already had their trip to New York booked and Cork's pitch out of operation with few concerts.

Mayo and Armagh.
Hard to know.

Derry could go tits up if the manager thing turns into a shambles. Galway surely can't be as injury plagued this time so should be ok. Tyrone will probably want to get a good run and momentum under O'Rourke.

As Dublin, Derry and ourselves have proved the last couple of years the league really doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, it is possible to win Sam from division 2 and it is possible to have a woeful championship after a brilliant league.

I'd be hopeful we will stay up and get more gametime and experience against the Dublin/Mayo/Kerrys of this world if even just for the occasion.

Interestly, I wonder would we have been able to develop boys like Conaty and McGrane as well as we did this year if we had been fighting for survival in division 1?

Will rule changes be trailed in a proper competition on before its brought in everywhere for example will these choose some county league to trail it in like the Leitrim junior league or something.

EmeraldOpal

Why not do the first  team  to score 2 points instead of overtime showdown

EmeraldOpal

Could they do a run up penalty shootout you could even have defender there too then the shooter has choice to put it over or go for  goal if he can beat the defender if the defender or goalkeeper blocks the ball its consider a miss and dead ball.

or just leave the rules as are, we make drastic changes too our game way way too much.

The game needs drastic changes though.

The only adult matches I tune into these days that don't involve Ballyholland or Down, are either the last stages of the AI, or games with Mayo playing.

Everything else turns me off.

So it's not football I'm tuning in for, but a sense of loyalty.

Admittedly I am a sample of one. Except most people I know from my generation have gone the same way.

Agree with you to an extent, but tbh id be similar with Soccer only watch games I have an interest in (even still watch Ireland games!) I watched 3 of the Tyrone champ games at the weekend on the aul firestick and really enjoyed them. yes it was possession based but the teams did go forward at pace and some great scores and plenty of tackles. prob helped that they were 3 tight games.

the problem isnt the rules its the coaches tactics. When you have people getting thousands out of clubs/counties in a result driven game then the spectacle goes out the window. no amount of rule changes will change that. Negative coaches will be negative regardless. when counties/ clubs start putting entertainment over results then we'd have a better spectacle but thats not going to happen and unfortunately its now win at all costs.

Didn't teams always go out to win rather than entertain?
