I don't recall anyone giving a damn as Putin closes in on 30 years in power, or Kim Jong Un, or Xi Jinping or any of the other perennial leaders of smaller countries.
You will be fine. Life will go on. I'm sure you survived 2017-21 just great. Just think about the more important things in life and put down the phone.

Exactly.

The difference is, at least until Putin starts moving ever westwards, that Trump's election has the possibility, maybe remote for the moment, of effecting material change on this country if he decides to make it attractive for American companies to shutdown here and return home.

I could apply that logic to any countries election and winners. Not one benefit has come my way from a new leader

To an extent he's right, but I'm not sure what he thinks Trump is going to do to fix all of these things.

Inflation has been an international issue and one where the US has fared relatively well. We would still have had inflation if Trump had won in 2020. Governments, both right and left, have been kicked out this past few years in the wake of the pandemic in response to inflation and housing and migration and so on. And even if you're like the US right wingers who put all of the blame on Biden pumping money into the economy, and none of it on the effects of the pandemic on supply chains, shipping networks, factories around the world shutting down etc., then let's not forget that Trump was divvying out billions in 2020 (those who live here will, I'm sure, remember the cheque in the post with Donald's signature on it). A man who did that and who also pressured the fed to keep interest rates low for political reasons would not have been at all reticent about further government spending after his re-election. We'll see how inflationary pressures are handled as these tariffs are introduced.

Immigration – no doubt Trump will "address" this and, had he won in 2020, would have not allowed too many of the people mobilized in the post-pandemic mass migration around the world into the US. So he'll close the border and then turn to those already here (no idea where whitey gets his 11 million number, but let's assume he's correct for now). Depending on how far he goes, he could trigger some serious blowback, despite the fairly resigned and beaten-down reaction of most opposing people to his election so far. If he does go crazy, good luck getting your roof replaced or finding staff to pick vegetables and fruit.

Crime – this is where the Dems need to grow a brain. Crime rates ARE extremely low, but they're losing the PR war through dumb policies like dollar limits on felony theft. Phone videos that can publicize police brutality can also make flash mob thefts of pharmacies or high end clothing/goods shops go viral. Every time someone goes to Rite Aid and has to ring the bell for the attendant to unlock the baby wipes or a can of deodorant, or they actually observe someone walking out past the security guard with an armful of items, they're reminded of the air of lawlessness around this issue. And this fuels the idiotic propaganda that convinces people who've never set foot there that large cities like NYC are unsafe Democratic hellscapes.

As for the garbage and Nazi stuff, get the f**k out of here. Who has thrown around those labels more than Trump himself? And maybe next time you're holding a massive rally in the Garden, vet the speeches and "jokes" of your speakers rather than cry about it when the world rightly calls you out.

I've been saying it for years

The Democrats seem to have abandoned their base and now just pander to the extremes of their party on issues of gender and race

Harris was a terrible candidate in the 2020 Democratic primary. She dropped out even before the Iowa Caucus-I think she was polling at 1% or less

Now because Beyoncé and JLO and Katie Perry all endorsed her...... she's now a great candidate and voters should ignore what's happening before their own eyes and put her back in power

Crazy

What have Beyoncé and Katy Perry got to do with anything?

Anything more than Hulk Hogan? Or Kanye West? Or Dr Phil?

She couldn't answer a straight question on her track record and then rolled out all these celebrities to vouch for her

Good point about the Republicans but that's just normal for Trump. He's an entertainer

Well go back to Romney and Clint Eastwood ranting at the empty stool.

They all wheel out the big names hoping to bask in a bit of star dazzle.

Fair enough

But if I can't afford to put gas in my car or buy groceries and as the encumbent you can't answer simple questions about what you'll do differently than Biden, pardon me for not giving a flying fvck and actually being offended about what JLO has to say about the situation

Well yeah.

I just don't get why people get offended when the other side rolls out the stars when they all do it.

A celebrity endorsement is not going to influence anyone who isn't already leaning that way. And even then it'll just be to the effect of liking that you share the same view.

Although my ten year old daughter loved that Taylor Swift endorsed Harris. ;)

Trump promised lower inflation, lowe interest rates, higher wages and that everyone would get a nice house . The only thing he left out was a pony. I wonder how long the honeymoon will last.

It depends.

US inflation is now back to where it was before Covid (when Trump was last in office), latest report being about 2.4% and dropping. He can't be blaming Biden 18 months from now if he introduces all these tariffs and drives prices way up again. Wages have been rising fairly steadily, unfortunately alongside the inflation.

Not sure what he can or will do about housing. Housing prices went through the roof starting in 2020 (again, when he was in office) as people suddenly started leaving big cities and moving all over the country for telework. Lots of people starting moving to places like Florida and Arizona. Then the Fed raised interest rates in response to inflation. In addition, as in Ireland, much of America simply hasn't been building enough houses, while a lot of housing in more popular areas has been diverted into short term rental investment properties or bought up by hedge funds and the like. And many of those blocked from getting on the housing ladder are children of parents who do not want regs or zoning loosened or changed in their neighbourhood because that might affect the value of THEIR house, which is now nice and high.

I've got that stupid song stuck in my head: "proud to be an Ameeerican".  :(
