Drunken brawl at the Balmoral Show.

Clearly there is an issue with farmers at the show and we need to send in the riot police to arrest and ban those responsible.

Place only opened up at 9.30 today! They must have been on the booze early  ;)

Quote from: Applesisapples on May 13, 2025, 11:06:38 AMI was at the match, disappointing result, Armagh did not get the rub of the green, that said the second Donegal goal, failure to push up on Donegal sickouts in the first 20 and their own dire sickouts in that same period put them on the back foot. Some harsh calls from the ref undoubtedly but I'm not sure that it took the game out of Armagh's hands, I'm not neutral so difficult to assess. The row at the end was all down to the Donegal player goading. In Rugby the ref will cite the player causing the fracas. I'm not condoning in anyway what the Armagh bench did, but I imagine it was hard to take. Not much between the two but both need to improve to go further. What concerned me more than the players going at it was the number of Donegal fans on the pitch surrounding the majority of Armagh players who weren't involved it could have been nasty if one ejit hits a player. I love Donegal as a county and as a team, I was a big fan of McGuiness as a player it is disappointing to see this rancour.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Are the Armagh lads that sensitive that they couldn't have enough restraint at the end of the game, not to go flying in all guns blazing? It comes across as poorly on them as it does on the Donegal lad who should have had more cop on. Disappointing in the context of it being a good game.

I am not a fan of the goading or screaming at opposition however Armagh does plenty of this at every tight game. For me its case of if you can give it you can take it. When Armagh does it the opposition does not start a mass brawl. Armagh have been at it now with Galway, Tyrone, Donegal. Its almost as if they are trying to show how hard they are. I have said it for a number of years that this hard man attitude has held Armagh back.

It's incredible that no one on here from Armagh seems to think responsibility should be taken for the violence we saw on Saturday. Again, justifying assaulting someone because of something verbal is utter madness.

Nobody wants to see fighting. It has no place on a pitch.  Do you not agree though that it is totally unacceptable for an opponent to goad like that and to say what he is alleged to have? But let's get real here, what other response was he likely to get?  This is pressure cooker championship stuff. It doesn't get much more intense.

As for not responding to taunts during a game, players know the consequences for them and the team on the day, and in the game, if they lash out.

It's still the same if you punch someone after a game, albeit the team will not be a man down.

As you say it's a pressure cooker for both, so letting off steam does not mean you get a dig in the bake for it and embarrass your county for it.

What did McGuinness do to get special attention?

So, verbals during the game fine, verbals after the game not fine?

In juvenile games I've stopped play, booked players who give verbals after their team has scored, purely the ones that goad a player, not your yeha ones..

We don't want to lose the passion but certainly goading is wrong and needs stamped out, but starting a riot over it is over the top

ADHD and obesity are linked, with research suggesting that individuals with ADHD may have a higher risk of developing obesity, and vice versa. This connection can be attributed to factors like impulsivity, inattention, and impaired self-control, leading to unhealthy eating habits and lack of physical activity. Additionally, obesity can worsen ADHD symptoms through inflammation, hormone imbalances, and low self-esteem.

We all know a story or a family and blah blah blah and it fits with a persons belief to what's wrong, but there are people smarter than us that research this stuff for a living, not knocking being a coach of underage teams but...

Quote from: bannside on May 13, 2025, 09:03:54 AMAll teams just try and be the best they can in respective grades age group or sector.

Hopefully the Masters team can give us something to look forward to, if nothing else the sight of many of the counties finest ever back out in a county jersey is still something to cherish. And winning too is always good, no matter what team it is.

I've never seen more BS than these Masters teams, sorry but I just can't have it at all.

It was a bitta craic when it first came about, I was involved with a few games for Antrim, bitta banter, rolling subs no real training as still playing reserve for the club so was grand enough..

But over the years since its become a bit of a serious set up with some cracking aul footballers playing, better structure to the games and plenty of exposure now.. There is plenty of bite in the games to, so its not a handy one to ref, some proper county rivalry carrying over..

Would have loved it for the hurlers but it never really caught on in Ulster, thinks its pretty popular in Munster and places like that

A lot of people don't like them as it seems like a lazy person's way of avoiding diet and exercise. The obesity crisis isn't going away though, so if these drugs keep people out of hospital from obesity related conditions the jabs will have been a great investment.
Til they're in the hospital with the side effects lol.

There's no substitute for eating less and moving more.
Given the numbers of obese people it's clear it isn't working as it requires effort.
Obese and smokers should be bottom of the list for NHS care.

How about drinkers or fast drivers. You could maybe include people who like bacon or anyone who does anything remotely dangerous or that could affect them in later life.

As usual people take arguments to the extreme. There is a direct link between obesity and smoking causing significant health issues later in life.

Drinking and bacon in moderation will be fine. Below are the most common issues facing NHS-

"In the UK, the most common diseases are musculoskeletal problems, mental health conditions, cardiovascular issues, respiratory conditions, and diabetes. Specifically, the top five causes of death include dementia, heart disease, chronic lower respiratory diseases, stroke, and lung cancer. In terms of morbidity (illness), depression and anxiety are major sources of illness"

Cut out obesity and smoking will stop nearly all these issues.

You have not highlighted mental health, which in a lot of cases is brought about by the illness like obesity which drives depressions and anxiety in social settings..

Kids with neurodiversity growing up will struggle with foods and parents will feed them anything just so they are eating, creating bad habits, I know this is a small minority but it creates patterns and continues through the years with more kids being exposed to poor eating habits..

It's not as cut and dried as parents not being responsible, great show on BBC last night about ADHD, eating disorders are also liked to it.. I'd say most parents looking back at their kids growing up will have struggled with one or two kids with their relationship with foods, be it taste, textures and type..

Only getting worse, hopefully these things work as the hospitals are flat out with the other problems relating to it

Only team in the county getting results. It is grim at the minute across the both codes. The ladies teams doing very well as are the camogs... us men need to give ourselves a good shake

The minor hurlers and the under 20 hurlers have put in decent performances..

All thoughts in football will be towards the club championship, its bigger than intercounty sure  ;)

Quote from: balladmaker on May 12, 2025, 05:46:38 PMChannel 4 news did a piece on these injections a week or so ago.  Apparently the same medication has been used  for treatment of diabetes for the last 20 yrs and they noticed they came accompanied with alot of weight loss.    So now approved for weight loss control on those seriously obese.  The consultant reckoned it was a case of weighing up the risks, pardon the pun.  Being obese obviously comes with alot of risk factors, therefore the medication may be the lesser of two evils for some.  The problem comes when someone who isn't obese wants to lose a few stone to look like someone in a magazine.

I just needs someone to die from it to be banned.

Quote from: donelli on May 12, 2025, 10:08:22 AMThe new rules have been a badly needed. The 3 up has gave better shape to the game. touch and go is good and the keeper restrictions are brilliant. kick outs are great too.
1 rule i cant have though is the new one introduced where a player who catches a ball from the kickout cant be tackled for up to 8m etc. It not natural to see players step out of there way for what is normally a good midfield contest.
No idea why this was introduced as the catcher always had the option to call a mark if he wanted space to kick it.
The penalty is very severe and i've seen several club matches where the the ball receiver basically ran straight at his opponent and was rewarded with a free 50m towards goal.

Its not a new rule though, the old Mark which this is, was always the case he couldn't be tackled for 4 meters and not 8m as you have stated..

I'm hearing this a lot in games and slightly confused as to why people think its new. the only difference is the player is given automatically that time after the catch without having to put his hand up, the ref still blows for the mark (if the player raises his hand he has to take the mark as normal) as he did before, but now players are backing away as its dissent if they tackle, that now brings 50meters rather than the original 13m had been tackled.

I think a lot of it depends on how it is refereed as well.  During the league and early part of the championship it seemed like every piece of contact including clearly accidentally contact on landing was being moved up (in games I was at) whereas now we are seeing sometimes clear violations being ignored.  I do think though its one of those where the punishment doesn't always really fit the crime.  A catch in crowded midfield where the player making the mark is obviously going backwards or side wards shouldn't result in a 40m kick for two points.  A cynical tackle to prevent a fast break might but how do you distinguish?

Yeah I'm all for that, its down to how the ref sees it as being deliberate or accidental, I've seen plenty of catches on tv and the player coming in behind lands on the person catching the ball, its not deliberate and the Mark should be just that or you can make a call that it's a free based on the other player landing on his back.

Deliberate is, my view anyways, and this isn't the technical term, if the player is acting the bollox, they are easy to spot..

You'll not see that term in the rules though ;D

I have for whatever reason seen it in intercounty games, not so much in club games
