Derry Man

Quote from: roadsidefox on November 09, 2024, 03:47:14 PMGlen appointing Rory Kavanagh. Interesting to see how he goes. Have heard good things about him.

Think it'll be hard for him to lift that group of players again. They didn't look the same team this year, too many players taking their eye off the ball.

They no longer seem to have the hunger as well as them now looking fallible
I've heard the opposite, really defensive manager and only managed 1 county title in 4 years with a talented St Eunan's team. Be interesting if he has anyone else in with him but still a good job with a serious squad

Glen even though they won, only really had the 2 Dohertys up front, Maybe McFaul if they played him there, They were struggling all year up front  and need to find a few forwards.

The Mulhollands, McGuckian and Tallon? Better front 6 in the county? I'd say Glen just ran out of steam after a few v long years. Wouldn't bet against them winning Ulster next year

Newbridge were unlucky there - I felt they were very unfortunate on some of the ref's decisions.
Still some year for them.

Brendan

Still the first Derry team to fall, 5/6 still standing!

I actually thought the opposite. Thought clann eireann had to work harder for their frees.
Better team won on the day.

With about 6/7 to go there was a definite foul on McAteer(who is electric) I think, just across from us on the terrace not given, CE bomb down the pitch and score... But Falloon overall was grand

Quote from: statto on November 08, 2024, 10:01:03 AMHow good as an intermediate side would Ballinderry be would they be fancying going the whole way?  Carrickcruppen be a well coached side and Eoin Woods was with the county a few years ago has been the player of intermediate championship in Armagh.  Cruppen were beat by Randalstown a few years ago first round in Ulster though they have had 4/5 new players in the team since then.

Didn't you know, this is the Derry manager discussion form lol

Both Matches in Celtic Park will be intriguing. Hard to know how Newbridge will fair. I fancy Clann Eireann.

Fair play to Newbridge for winning the championship but they remind me of Coleraine in 2010.

Ballinderry, although they won the intermediate, they didn't blow any teams away. Tough games against Banagher and Faughanvale. They do have a good mix of experience and youth.
This will be screenshotted on Twitter on Monday from the Thatch, after Newbridge beat the Armagh champs

Agreed. We were on the terrace right beside where that happened. Round the neck tackle. To be fair he also gave the Bridge a couple of soft ones. The Bridge gave too many 50 50 passes in the second half. I think a more experienced team would have recycled more when the pass wasn't on. Still, a very bright future for such a young team. Plenty of pace. Padraig and Eamon Young as well next year!

And Cahair McBride too, disappointed to have lost but proud of how such a young team battled to the end against such a  talented and physically strong CE Team ,

Kerry's performance coach Paddy Tally is being targeted to become the next Derry football manager.

Former Down boss Tally has been coaching Kerry under Jack O'Connor these past three seasons including 2022 when they claimed an All-Ireland SFC title. He is set to remain with them in 2025 as a performance coach, replacing Tony Griffin.

However, that arrangement could be in jeopardy with Derry believing they may have finally found a successor to Mickey Harte is his fellow Tyrone man and former coach Tally.

After a difficult championship which was preceded by a Division 1 title, Harte stepped down in July and a host of names including former manager Rory Gallagher have been linked with the vacancy in the meantime.

A member of Tyrone's 1995 All-Ireland finalist panel, Galbally man Tally worked with Harte when the county claimed their first Sam Maguire Cup in 2003. He was also part of James McCartan's Down set-up that lost to Cork in the final seven years later. He also assisted Kevin Walsh during his term in Galway before taking over Down in 2018 and later joining O'Connor in Kerry from 2022.

Earlier Tuesday, former Derry footballer Joe Brolly posted on X/Twitter: "Derry board going through the phone book of Tyrone managers. Shameful lack of loyalty to their own. Shameful lack of integrity".

Loyalty of their own. Who's he thinking about, he not come out with a name, cause I don't there anybody in the county fit for it.

Exactly. Joe a great man at providing problems, not so many solutions forthcoming. Wasn't he integral during the appointment of Dubliner Brian Mullans? Did he ever criticise Cavan for appointing Coleman?

Joe is correct. Embarrassing but good fun watching from Tyrone 😄

Philly McMahon in with him as a coach apparently. Given where we're at in the process and what's gone on to date, it doesn't sound too bad. Could be a few twists yet though.
