When is the confirmed league start date for the club leagues?  I've heard 13th April and then in recent days I'm hearing back to the 30th March.

Are you sure that it's 15 days until the leagues start?  I saw the master spreadsheet for the league in both codes and it has the ACFL down to start on Sunday 6th April and the ACHL to start on Sunday 13th April.  It could be a mistake all the same.  I wouldn't rule it out from our joke of a set up.

There have been new proposals put out about the leagues with Division 2 becoming a 14 team league (Biddies and Creggan up from Div 3) with two groups of 7.  Everyone in your group play once with top 4 in each group breaking into a promotion group and bottom 3 in each group into a relegation group.  Division 3 goes to 10 teams with the addition of  St Endas Reserves.  That means that the Johnnie's are the only Antrim club in Division 1 without a reserve team in the all county leagues.

He could've answered better but I was just pointing out how he got involved publicly

I agree with both of you.  I watched the League Sunday programme and didn't feel that said anything out of place.  Imo he tried to sit on the fence but didn't really word things well which left himself open to journalists etc taking what he actually said out of context.

So If Carey get the reprieve from promotion to Division 1 in the league will they be allowed to do the same for championship?  Though if I'm right in saying, when you win the Ulster Junior or Intermediate you can't play in that championship for 3 years I think. So if Carey were to win Intermediate again this year they wouldn't be allowed to enter the Ulster competition.

Yea seemed to be comfortable enough.  Haven't seen the match report so I don't know who the starting team or finishers were but judging from the photos posted by McTaggart it almost looks like an All-North Antrim line out.

Yea less games make no sense tbh.  The only reason I can think of Loughgeil wanting a one way league is so that they can potentially plan a few trips down south to play challenge games maybe.

I'm not sure about Carey.  Nor do I know what the story will be with Dunloy, Ballycastle & Cushendall reserves 🤔 As usual we will probably find out 2/3 weeks prior to the start of the league.

Heard that the beaten Ulster Intermediate Finalists were looking to gain entry into the ACHL's.  And that Loughgeil are proposing a one way league.  Not sure if that's a one way league with the split but I assume they're looking a one way league without the split

This is probably already common knowledge but after Loughgeil entering their reserves into Division 2 last year I'm hearing that Dunloy (Division 2) and Ballycastle (Division 3) are planning on entering their reserves into the ACHL instead of the Reserve League this year.

Quote from: imtommygunn on December 28, 2024, 06:32:48 PMWhere do kids go to primary school? Do they just have to go to ballycastle and loughgiel / Dunloy?

Yea the Carey kids go to one of the three Ballycastle schools.  They seem to have a bit of a community link with the Integrated school.  The Cloughmills kids would go to either Dunloy, Loughgeil or Corkey so I suppose it's much harder for them to develop a community link in those schools as they're already aligned with Dunloy or Loughgeil.  Numbers in Armoy and Cushendun primary schools still seem to be strong enough for their size.

Quote from: imtommygunn on December 28, 2024, 02:20:29 PMNorth Antrim has had quite a few amalgamations over the years. St Brendan's was it? Glenshesk were one at a point. Pretty sure there was an omerbane at a stage.

Armoy, cushendun , cloughmills struggle all the time for underage numbers but then at times glenravel and glenarm would too. You would see ones from these clubs play for some of the bigger ones though.

A number of these clubs are really gonna struggle in the coming years.  Both primary schools in Carey and Cloughmills have been shut down in recent years.  Very hard to see where any club gets their numbers from if they have no primary school aligned with them.

Aside from scheduling.  I would put it down to buy in from players.  In cork it's been historically part of their championship that regional sides take part and there seems to be alot of pride in representing their region.  Up here it would be a case of "F**k this,  my club has a good chance of winning intermediate, I'll not bother with that regional team.
I'm not gonna bother playing along with my intermediate rivals." Plus club managers will portray that narrative to their players too.

So Cargin were beaten in Ulster this year by the Ulster Champions and potential All Ireland champions.  Shows to the strength of Ulster football and how competitive it is.
