Began really was impressive v Down, his kick outs to team mates on the run is freakishly good.
I've no problem with him coming out to join the attack as he is no longer the extra man as such.
But I hated the rule that was in during the 1st 5 league games, that allowed the keeper to create the extra man.

Quote from: Mourne Rover on March 24, 2025, 11:20:34 AMEugene Branagan and James Guinness both did well yesterday but they play in entirely different positions - Guinness was in the corner while Branagan usually operates around our half back line. Branagan ran himself into the ground and scored a couple of fine points but he can also be caught in possession, as happened in first half injury time when we could have been in for a goal after a turnover. It was reasonable to replace him with nearly an hour gone and Guinness was also subbed a couple of minutes later. Laverty made all the right calls in Clones and, despite a very unlucky relegation in a tight division, we are in good shape going into the championship. If we keep our key men, McEvoy, Havern and above all Murdock fit, we are capable of making a decent impact. McGeough has suddenly emerged as a prospect while Burns is improving in goals with every game. We are definitely in our best shape since Laverty's appointment, and a little more strength on the bench could take us even further.

I'd agree McGeough looked very promising yesterday, he has probably done enough to edge in front off Savage and McCrickard for a starting place against Fermanagh in the championship.

In addition to Havern, McEvoy and Murdock, I'd add Daniel Guinness to that list he's had a very impressive league campaign. It's a real pity Liam Kerr isn't available this year, the new rules would be ideal for his game.

Began was very impressive v Down yesterday, his kickouts were unreal, I've never seen anything like it. When he came out to join the attack he played several killer passes.

In the games I've seen, Eugene Brannigan has been very good, the new rules really suit his game. He is very good breaking from defence and setting up attacks. At times he looks to take a bit much out of the ball, and risks overcarrying.

He definitely has more influence on the game than James Guinness, who seems to get more game time than Brannigan.

I was suprised he was taken off as early as he was yesterday, because he had a very impressive 1st half

Roscommon are away to westmeath for their final game. The way div 2 has gone, it wouldn't suprise me if Westmeath got their first win of the year.

Quote from: ardtole on March 15, 2025, 07:06:50 AMDoes anyone have any idea when the Munster shc tickets go on sale? I'm hoping to go to Clare v Tipp in Ennis this year.

Do they go on ticketmaster? Would imagine it goes through the clubs? Probably not depending on the ground

I got 4 tickets for Cork v Limerick last year in Supervalu, I'm looking for 4 this year for Clare v Tipp in Ennis.

Could be harder this year with the smaller capacity in Ennis, but in recent years the Tipp support hasn't travelled in great numbers.

I'd like to know when they go on sale, just to give me the best opportunity of getting them.

Even if Cork win, Louths final game is v Meath which I can't see them winning, but we would need to beat Monaghan in Clones to stay up.
If Louth win we would have the same points as Cork going into the final game, clear of them on the head to head.
Their final match is away to Cavan, we are away to Monaghan and as long as we matched their result we would stay up.

I saw a Blaney mentioned in the minor hurling team, I'm presuming the son or nephew of Greg.

Quote from: pbat on March 09, 2025, 10:27:58 AMLike Leinster the last few years, I find this Irish team hard to warm to. Maybe its listening to the Dublin media  but both teams seem totally devoid of personalities. Its all very robotic both on and off the pitch.

I'd be similar, there was a time I wouldn't miss a 5/6 nations game, recently I'd more than likely not see it.

I really hate the residency rule, I think it makes a mockery of international rugby. I know every country does it, blah, blah blah, it really irks me.

I'd love Saudia Arabia to take a keen interest in rugby , sign up 100 top up and coming players and compete for a world cup in 5 or 6 years time and show the ridiculousness of the rule.

I vaguely remember Ger Brennan mentioning male partners after winning the all Ireland during his acceptance speech. Can't remember the exact detail but there wasn't much reaction to it at the time.

The Munster shc games will be tough enough to get tickets for. A tipperary home game would be your best bet.
Cork and Limerick have huge support and Waterford and Clare home games have relatively low capacity.

Quote from: downtothecore on March 01, 2025, 07:38:33 PMAnother narrow defeat for Down.. our boys are struggling to win pkaying well. Relagation beckons...
Down playing very well. Was a savage game, 2 teams out of it gassed last 10 mins after emptying the tank before that. Down had a nailed on 2 pointer waved wide late on

I was perfectly in line with it and felt it was over the post.
I was in line with it too, and myself and most Cavan people around me thought it was a score

Any idea why the 13m free was given to Cavan in front of the posts in the last few minutes having awarded R McEvoy the free in the first instance, very unlucky not to get a result in spite of the decisions against us I felt.
He didn't do the tap and go properly, got brought back to take free, then dissent gave a 13m free to Cavan for throwing the ball down and shouting at the ref

How can you do the tap and go incorrectly? You either keep going or you don't. There were frees for both teams in the second half and I've no idea what any of them were for.
