Quote from: country bumpkin on June 13, 2024, 09:03:26 AMDon't think big Pat Shivers has enjoyed a start time in Saffron thus far....

Head scratcher..........

Hasn't the work rate or athleticism for inter county football

Must be that because ability certainly doesn't come into play with majority of the players on that panel...

If you can't get the ball you cant do anything with it

BTW This was directed at Shivers. As someone says its the way the game has gone and is the way it will stay

Sorry, that was a typo. I was meaning wasn't directed at him. Ive heard a few ex county players talking recently saying talent is now overlooked for athletes

What utter BS, I would have thought that those who played the game would know better.

At this level you need both the talent and the application/ athleticism.

Do they actually watch the games and see how hard Clifford works and he is the most naturally talented player of this generation. Hand and glove.

Not on the Antrim panel alot of players with the athleticism and little to no aility....

Caesar

Our current county team "with the athleticism and little to no ability" are the most competitive team we have had for a long time. But lets write them off because the Cargin lads can't get a game.

Wonder who would win if they were to play Cargin...

Serious question here, and not one of those 'grenade questions or statements'

How would people here expect a full blown Antrim v Cargin game to go?

Give the winner plus a 5pt winning margin. E.g. Antrim by 5-10, or Cargin by 1-5.

The thing here is... 5 of those Cargin players minimum aren't available. The two McCanns, Crozier, O'Boyle and Laverty that I know of. If you take that and Cargin have what 4 players on the county panel? then 40% of those available are on the county panel. There may be more unavailable too - I don't know.

It's not like they're being ignored here. Those 5 boys are still up there as Michael McCann showed again last weekend.

Also Johnston starts all day when fit and Quinn and Kelly had injury issues which probably curtailed them as they were progressing well.

This was brought up years ago when St Galls were in their pomp. A county team will win every time
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

Your club AI winning team is beating our current county team by 7/8

Our current county team are doing pretty well for antrim standards. Like any other county there's a few boys that everyone would like on the panel but aren't for whatever reason.

One thing about players McEntee plays is that he goes for the tall athletic player. That is what county football suits these days and that is how it goes. See Sean Quigley in Fermanagh for an example. That's just how county football is - the players who buy in to the setup and who fit athletically etc will fill the bulk of the team. That doesn't seem to add up to some people but it's absolutely the right thing to do - it's how county football works now.

No so sure if scraping a win at home counts as "working"

Big game tomorrow but all the chat is who would win between Cargin and Antrim and Pat Shivers can't get a game.

What about Fermanagh ? They're slight favourites imo cause of home advantage, would have Antrim favourites if it was in Belfast.

Right. Only as good as your last game then.

Exactly hoof. fermanagh should be favourites but we have  chance. I think we beat them at this stage last year. We tend to have while bother with Ultan Kelm so need to put the shackles on him.

InnocentByStander

they will be beat by 7 or 8

Lot of heart after the Sligo game. Think the London at home was a tough one, as oisin mcconville said on his podcast these NY/Londons arent maybe what they used to be. Getting the win is the main thing. Similar heart to the sligo game please, need mcbride, mccann, mcaleese, keenan etc to make the driving runs jordan makes. Hes possibly our top performer this year and a prime example of pace, power and work rate over natural footballing ability. Great player
