Was at the game last night. Ireland battled hard and ran their legs off but they were playing against a better team. Canada were way more composed on the ball, also they were a much bigger team.
Canada 7th in the world and reigning Olympic Champions, Australia 10th in the World and hosting the WC. For context Ireland are 22nd.

McCabe was already mentioned on here, but I thought O'Sullivan was even better. The two of them were everywhere, and a class above.
Ireland got a lucky goal early and played for territory as much as possible. It was clear the plan was to get the ball into the channels. They gave away a sloppy goal after 6 minutes of injury time and Canada worked a good goal 10 minutes after ht.
Ireland tired at times, as they had to spend much longer without the ball, and they lacked the composure of Canada when they did have the ball, so more running required.
Straight after the final whistle, McCabe made a bee line towards the ref to discuss something. Body language didn't seem aggressive. The ref was pointing to her watch, appeared to be suggesting that she stopped the clock for delays (a few cramps etc towards the end) but as McCabe walked away the ref seemed to reconsider and showed a yellow card.

The crowd was 90% Irish ex-pats, who hollered, cheered and sang to lift the players, but ultimately left the stadium dejected. The players came over to the stand to applaud the crowd afterwards, which was reciprocated.
Didn't hear any singing or chanting as we left the stadium. Team were dejected as were the fans.

Don't believe we have the players for a more expansive gameplan, and when we chased in the second half we got opened up more often and more easily, though Ireland were tiring, and Louise Quinn was sent up front for the last 10 or so

So why would Kane move? At this stage of his career, CL football is only a lure if there's a strong chance of success. If all United can offer him is a chase for the top-4 trophy, he may as well stay at Spurs.

I'd be be pretty dubious that Spurs will be serious challengers for a top 4 spot this coming season.  They've fallen a long way back.

No doubt. But for 3/4s of a downtrodden season they were still tracking top 4, and this season they've no European distractions. We'll find out soon enough whether it was Conte's anti-football that got them into that position, or was sucking the life out of them.

I think you'll find it was Pochettino that was the outlier, not Conte.
Depending on how far back you want to go, Spurs have been top 4 twice in the last 5 years, 5/10, 7/15, 7/20. Poch's 5 seasons produced 4 of these 7 top 4 finishes, with only Conte and Harryx2 getting there

RTÉ have 6 cameras I think in CP  .

It doesn't matter how many cameras you have, you're not going to use them to check hand passes FFS.
Aussie rules fans have the same complaint about non-striking hand passes. If the referee (or umpire) can't see an infringement, he shouldn't guess. You aren't going to be able to see from both sides at the same time.

I don't understand the confusion on the Roscommon player fouling the ball. You are not allowed to throw the ball in football

I've seen people on Twitter saying you throw the ball downwards to hop it. You don't. If you were allowed to throw it up for a bounce, what would stop you throwing it over a players head and running past him, like a quick lineout in rugby.

Any grand ideas we may have had about increased capacity were crushed around the end of the noughties. It used to be a near sell out for every Dublin game back then, and 3-4 extra per season. Now it's only a true sell out for the finals, with 65k+ attendances reserved for certain big days involving Limerick or Cork hurlers, or an odd football double header including the likes of Armagh or a blockbuster semi like Kerry v Dublin. The oldest part of the stadium, the Cusack, is still perfectly adequate in basically all areas. Corporate facilities there are still not far behind the Hogan side. To have that being the case 30 years on is probably testament to the vision of the admin behind the reconstruction at that time. I suspect we'll see near to zero changes to the stadium for the next 20 years

I think it's too big for the GAA, not just in terms of size but also in term of maintenance costs, commercial focus  and potentially in terms of future rebuild if cost inflation on the A5 is anything to go by.

you'd swear the referees and players were in there running the conferences in between games!

The whole thing is pointless really. Anyone who has coached kids will know that regardless of counting scores the kids will know themselves who won or who "lost".

Losing and how to react to it is a vital life skill and teaching kids early will help them develop into resilient adults.

That's all well and good, and of course the kids will know, but if there are no official results, then the club doesn't need to pick the stronger players at the expense of the weaker ones. They can all play and develop and learn.
Kids will be kids, its the adults that need to be managed!

It's an interesting debate - my kids are not sporting age just yet, and it's been a while since I played!

But a thought crossed my mind. The opinions in this forum for this topic may be a bit like assessing the bullet holes in the returned planes.
Most of the people who post here were never lost to the game.
To grow the game - even to stabilise with the increasing global pull of international sports - we should be trying to ensure the players who were traditionally lost to the game, are not lost to the game.

There are so many players who might not have been competitive as a 6,7,8,9 even 15 year old but who become great players or club people.
Would suggest that of those children, more of them stopped playing.

I didn't play from age approx 14/15 - 25 because they started bringing players from younger teams in to start ahead of me in 'important' games when we didn't have subs. I just gravitated towards other sports. It's a regret that I didn't stick at it, but 15 year old me didn't want the disappointment.
