Went to see Skyfall last night. Liked it a lot - solid 8.5/10.

Any criticism of cliches in a Bond film seems strange. Thin line behind a cliche and the Bond formula of girls, guns, gadgets, big opening sequence, over the top villains, cheesy one-liners, cars, casinos, money shots for Omega etc. etc. Any director knows they have to work any film around the formula.
Compared to the slickness of Casino Royal I thought it was poor. The product placement was ridiculous and I nearly spat my coke out when i heard the "Welcome to Scotland" line. Bland entertainment for a hungover Sunday is about the only thing it fits the bill for IMO.

I didn't notice the Audi, Heineken, Omega, VW, Sony or Coke product placements so I have no idea what you are talking about...  ;)

After reading that Heineken paid £28m for their bottle to appear in it. Almost a third of the estimated production budget.

I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight

trileacman

Seen killing them softly, thought it was disappointing, a real art-house flick which laid it on heavy with the whole economic undertone thing. Waste of time really.

Puckoon

Was moderately to serverely hung over for most of yesterday so I caught up with a few movies:

The Grey - really enjoyed it despite what I read on here
The Raven - not a bad movie, but not a great one either, although the girl is cute

Watched the Avengers movie over the weekend....dont see what all the fuss is about. It's ok, nothing special. 7/10.

Also watched Expendables 2....much more enjoyable. Total tongue in cheek action I thought it was a good old fashioned over the top goody vs baddy A-Team like film with gore!  A solid 9/10.

Crazy stuff.
Seen worse in Laois county finals though.

I went to see Argo Wednesday night. Now that is a good film about the rescue of American hostages in Iran around 1980 and the interesting plan they came out with to try get them out without being caught by the Iranians. Ben Affleck starred in it and directed it.
I agree with most of the commetns about Skyfall. Too much hype about it and wasn't as good as some reviews made out.

Dead Man's Shoes is excellent. It's one of the best films of recent years, imho

For the life of me I don't know why they had to cast an American with a shit accent to play the lead role. . . it's like we don't have actors in Ireland or something?!

Typical Bond movie, lots of hype, predictable plot and far too long. Its more of a series of car adverts with the odd watch thrown in.
