Probably punters riding the trend of opposing Cheltenham winners. Though it's in to 2.72 on Betfair now.

The winners are hard to come by these days, betting more on the live sports but have a small e/w double on Lord Generous and Whinestone Boy, both at 12s, only because Im bored at work.

Question for the more expert horse racing followers.

Do the tactics employed by Wetern Leader in the 3 mile hurdle today ever really work? (he took the horse out at a real fast gallop, led by a long way most of the race then died over the last). Seems to me a horse who takes a race out at what seems like an unnaturally fast pace is always caught but are they actually ever smart tactics?

And yes, I had it backed and am annoyed! But also genuinely curious.
As I dream about movies they won't make of me when I'm dead

Donnellys Hollow

I suspect Western Leader has to be ridden like that TAM. I used to ride a bit myself in p2p's (many moons an lbs ago!) and there are certain horses that just don't like being in and around other horses. They'll spit the dummy and drop themselves out. You just have to kick them in the belly at the start and give them some rein. Had he held him back a bit more he'd have probably ran too free and been done for speed - looks an out and out stayer.

The young lad didn't do an awful lot wrong to be honest. He wasn't able to get a breather into him at any stage because John Cullen was on his tail the whole way. He had them all at it four out and it looked like a repeat of his last run at Thurles. The only slight criticism I'd have is that he didn't look for something to race against after two out to try and galvanise the horse again. He might have picked up again if the other horse was closer to him. The winner was still way behind turning in so it's probably unfair to criticise O'Farrell for not picking him out as his danger.

Got the place for e/w purposes anyway so nothing lost, nothing gained.
