It's all about the league!  The scenes in and around Anfield yesterday showed what it means to the supporters.

Underdogs again with the bookies. Used to it by now but suits us ok.

Will be interesting to see who comes back into the Armagh team.

Good point. Thought we were going to run away with it 15 mins into the second half, but Tyrone got back into it without playing overly great. 

Armagh have not been the best team in Ulster since 2008. It seems this might finally be their year.

Haven't been the best penalty takers since 2023.

It's super strange that it's all us Liverpool fans who are triggered when we are winning the league, thus climbing back on to our perch, and our biggest rivals are destined for a 17th place finish...any sane person would think it'd be them who's triggered!

Only recently cottoned on to this new lingo of 'triggered'. Used a lot in this thread. Had no idea what it meant. 

Not many clubs would be able to keep two high profile world class players who are out of contract.  Normally they'd be off to the highest bidder raking in even bigger money.  It's a very positive sign for Liverpool supporters.

Have to hand it to Man U, despite their many limitations they know how to do comebacks.  That was unreal.  Just knew when they got that penalty they'd end up winning it.

36 wins for Slot now in his first 50 games.
In comparison Klopp won 26 of his first 50 while Fagan and Kenny both had 29.
Some going for Slot. In fairness to Klopp he didn't inherit a great squad but for Slot,a  guy who was supposed to struggle in his first season, 36/50 is a fantastic return.

The challenge is to keep doing it. Conte won a league in his first year at Chelsea and was sacked after his second season. Salah and VVD staying will be a big boost but the league has been poor enough this season with Liverpool the only club playing at a high level. They'll get it tougher next season for sure but at the end of the day Liverpool's name will go on the trophy and it doesn't say everyone else was shite on the roll of honour. Deserved champs but I think they'll definitely need to bring in a few good players to defend it.

This poor/weak league chat is just wrong.

WTF has this got to do with anything? The fact is no other team has been consistent. Liverpool will have lost leagues with more points than they'll get this year. 2nd place is on about 60 odd points and don't think 3rd has even broken 60 yet. Other teams are well below their usual levels of consistency.

Leagues have also been won with less points. 75 points has won a league previously. Theres a fair chance Arsenal will finish above that in 2nd place this year. You could possibly argue that the rest of the field are slightly poorer, but Liverpool are on target to hit the average winning total for premiership winners. So their performance would win the league most years. But yes, there's been no stand out competitor to challenge them. For me there's a difference between league lacking consistency and having a poor winner. If liverpool were creeping over the line on 80 points or under then I'd agree on a poor winner. But chances are they'll be closer to 90. Which is a good place to be when the others are rebuilding.
That said, I'd have happily taken a 74 point win this year.

TBF my original point was Liverpool will have to improve to defend it. Someone will likely emerge from the pack and be a lot better than what they've been up against this year.

They've cruised to it and that's not Liverpool's fault. I would expect Arsenal to be decent if they get a proper goal scorer. City, you'd never know but they need a fair turnover in players so won't be easy for them but they just spend whatever they want. Personally, I don't think this Liverpool team are as good as some of the ones that lost leagues recently but both they and City were setting extraordinary standards. Few key men the wrong side of 30 so might even just need to get them a bit of cover and more rest. 

Could argue most seasons that other teams will improve. They don't always do though.  This Liverpool team probably isn't as good as the ones that were narrowly pipped to second place with points tallies well into the 90s.  But they just have to be the best this season and they clearly are.
 

Was at the game tonight and half the time the crowd hadn't a clue what was going on. They are removing all emotion from the game. Armagh lost that game tonight because one of their players didn't hand the ball back.Its just ridiculous.

3. Those who enjoy the spectacle within the confine of whatever rules are in place.  There have been matches under the old rules where 1-7 to 0-9 have been as enjoyable if not more than 1-24 to 1-34 under the new rules.

The new rules give no consideration to defenders or defensive play. Everything it to make it easier to score - so much so it devalues the individual score. Some people already saying Goal should be 4 under the new rules.

Rules that say a defender is not allowed to tackle. WTF?

Or rules that say you are allowed to defend, but not too much as we don't want the defender to win out.

Rules that say you're keeper can have the ball passed to him in his own half....even soccer allows that.

Rules that say when you've fallen on he ball with 3 opponents standing over you not allowing you up, if you dont immediately jump to your feet and hand the ball to the oppositions on conceding a free, that a 50m advance is given. Even if from your position you've no idea what way the free has been given.

But but but - lateral play was bad. Has it gone away now? Has it feck.

I remember seeing players score from outside the 45 in the old rules, now if you score from outside a 40m arc you get 2 points! That's not an improvement, that's devaluing what was a hard won score under old rules.

Agree completely. 

Seems there are two types of people who follow football.

1. Those who can recall just how awful the game had become, especially in terms of lateral play.

2. Those with goldfish memories.

3. Those who can see the need for change but not via a superimposed controlled experiment.
