General discussion / Re: Movie recommendations

Quote from: lurganblue on May 07, 2024, 10:06:02 AMI finally got to the cinema to see Dune 2. I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I think it was up a step from the first part. There are maybe some scenes that could be cut to shorten the film but I wouldnt change it. It's a cinematic spectacle at times.

I look forward to more in the franchise.

Just finished both, completely (in my head) so much better than the original

Plot good, even better knowing it is older than Star Wars and predates Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward's Tremors ;)

I tend to watch these long features in hour viewings, primarily as her indoors wouldn't watch the trailer never mind 5 minutes, so when she pops off to bed, I'll get a hour!

I'm on the pitch doing football games twice a week, the cry is no shooting until inside the scoring zone, the D or inside the 21, no attempts are taken outside of that space, so I'm not surprised the accuracy is good

Watched it a couple of times and its a 50/50 call at intercounty level refereeing and a yellow at club level... If that makes any sense ;)

Quote from: JonnyD_ on May 27, 2024, 10:58:36 PMi think the main reason for finding someone local isnt anti- Gleeson or anti- southerner i just think it makes more sense to have someone whos not spending 20 hours a week in the car travelling up and down. its a tough enough job without being on the road. thats my honest opinion and mental fatigue surely must kick in, especially after 5 long seasons starting in the summer realistically!

Probably Gregory... he's the only one i honestly think of with a track record of winning! and winning consistently (bar last year lol!) why not give it someone like him supported by a good back room team.

Re: Carlow i'm maybe being flippant there but we should be targeting those games as must wins, i think thats part of my point. apologies  ;D

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on May 27, 2024, 05:40:50 PMSo which Antrim man are you recommending?

Not sure what standard of players we have to match teams physically? We have plenty skill btw but over 70 plus minutes the big teams grind you down.

Bitta disrespectful on Carlow, they'd a better score difference to us and with 15 players on the park they could have won.

We did target that game as a must win..

I think there is a selection process with interviews for the post, not sure Gregory would be interested it's been a tough job for anyone never mind locals, but anyone can apply.

Darren has three very good knowledgeable Antrim men by his side, they might want to be in the reckoning too.

Personally I much prefer the outsider, one example, Dinny, was a cracking manager and was able to instil his passion for the game to the players without any baggage.

Bringing Antrim natives generally brings the negativity from the barflys/hurlers in the ditch.

The current players in Antrim age wise isn't bad, potentially there's some growth there, wouldn't be the worst time to take a team

I just said let's see, then you went on a rant..

I'll put this out here in case people are stupid enough to think I'm supporting Russia  ::).. I'm not

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on May 27, 2024, 12:03:34 AMWell let's see, tactics over the years with various conflicts or wars have used indiscriminate bombs to create fear..

Doesn't mean it will impact change from the aggressors, in fact might have the opposite

You don't need to wait and see, Russia has been hitting civilians targets intentionally for over 2 years now. Including double tap strikes to kill first responders and those coming to help the wounded.

Ukraine hasn't adopted their 'strategy' and they aren't going to. In fact, every time Ukraine hits a high value Russian military target such as an airfield or ship watch out for the next shopping mall or marketplace packed with civilians to get obliterated. They think they can break the will of the Ukrainian civilian population, they are wrong.
I seriously doubt that MR2 has been following the war news from Ukraine, the weak justification offered for his statement that something may change in the future would suggest so.

On hitting military targets deep inside Russia, this recent hit takes the biscuit with aplomb, A drone traveled (a new world record) 1,800km "attacking the Voronezh M long-range ballistic missile target detection radar station located in the city of Orsk on 26 May"
This radar station offered some level of protection for a vast area of land  (thousands of kms) which includes Crimea. This station can detect ATTACKMS and for example f16 fighter planes (yet to arrive) but not Stormshadow missiles or drones.
This very effective softening up strategy by the AFU of hitting active  and passive Russian  defense systems continues unabated.
The 2 radar complexes that were hit, approx value $1bn.

Ok..

Im watching the news, documentary's, clips online like anyone else.

What are you doing different?

Antrim need to look at having consistency away from home, it's like we throw the towel in before the ref throws the ball in.

The point with looking at Dublin is to say that's our target, we ain't reaching the Limericks Corks and Kilkenny's levels but if we creep that bit closer each year we can start to be competitive.

Antrim are in a great position because of our senior club league. It's managed to produce higher standard of players at senior level whereas at juvenile level we are lacking, need to improve that but it's not the main reason we are a tier 2 team.

Beating Wexford and Carlow and putting ourselves in the mix heading to Dublin, albeit we were beat handy, was an improvement

If we are using no more under age success (which we never had) then Antrim should be plying their trade at Christy Ring level

Our senior club level, as in when our lads hit senior level we are well capable

Sorting out juvenile would be great but it won't make us All Ireland contenders.

I said that Dublin are the level we look to get to is not taking away from how much Dublin has dominated us, but they ain't in the big 6

We need to get to that level

Quote from: marty34 on May 26, 2024, 03:56:02 PMAntrim's target is to win 1 game in Leinster and stay in the Leinster Chapionship the following year.

That's success for Antrim.

What are Dublin doing that we need to do?

Dublin should be what we are looking to get to

2 wins, need to regroup and look at next season, see if we can improve..

Losing NMcM is a big blow and we've coped, but we are young enough hopefully we can unearth some more lads this year from the club championship
