GAA Discussion / Meath news!
April 30, 2013, 04:14:13 PM
Ok not that this thread will be overflowing or anything but couldnt see where else Id put it!

Meath manager Mick O'Dowd has dropped a number of prominent players from the panel ahead of the forthcoming Leinster SFC game against Longford or Wicklow on Saturday 15th June.

O'Dowd and the selectors finalised the panel after Saturday's NFL Div 3 final against Monaghan at Croke Park.

Gone from the panel are Cian Ward, Jamie Queeney, Shane McAnarney, Cormac Rowe, Darragh McNamara, David Lyons and Stephen Crosby.

Meath will tackle Cavan in a SFC Challenge at St Colmcille's on Friday night at 7.30.

Ward and Queeney abit of a shock for me I must say....

GAA Discussion / Quarter finals August weekend
July 19, 2010, 11:43:23 AM
There will be 4 really interesting games for this. Can someone confirm can you meet the provincial loser again, e.g. Meath could meet Louth, Roscommon and Sligo??? or are they kept apart until semis, confusing from what Im reading on different threads. also are there any other restrictions with teams? They will prob play 1 sat, 2 sunday and one Monday? Think they've used the Monday the last few years...

From the Indo:

CAN it really be 25 years since the GAA celebrated its centenary, an occasion marked by various 100-year team selections which generated enough energy to heat the country's clubhouses?

Now, as part of the GAA's 125th anniversary celebrations, teams of the last 25 years are being chosen, which will prove both interesting and divisive in equal measure. The Leinster Council has already nominated 120 players for their 1984-2009 teams, which will be announced at a later date this year.

It's quite a line-up of past and present and there are prizes to be won for members of the public who predict the correct teams. Full details on www.leinstergaa.ie.

The following are the nominations, plus my choices of who should fill the various positions.

No 1: J O'Leary, S Cluxton (Dublin), F Byron (Laois), M McQuillan (Meath).

Choice: O'Leary -- played 70 successive championship games (three with extra time), conceding 51 goals, or one goal every 98 minutes.

No 2: R O'Malley, M O'Reilly (Meath), D Dalton (Kildare), C Daly (Offaly).

Choice: O'Malley -- covered every angle, every opponent, every time.

No 3: D Fay, M Lyons (Meath), G Hargan (Dublin), H Kenny (Wicklow).

Choice: Lyons -- the ultimate antidote to cheeky invaders.

No 4: T Ferguson (Meath), J Higgins (Laois), J Keane (Westmeath), M Kennedy. (Dublin).

Choice: Kennedy -- deserved more than one All Star award.

No 5: P Curran (Dublin), K Foley (Meath), L Glynn (Wicklow), T Kelly (Laois).

Choice: Curran -- the complete wing-back package.

No 6: K Barr (Dublin), F Cullen (Offaly), L Harnan (Meath), G Ryan (Kildare).

Choice: Ryan -- 16 seasons as first-class Lilywhite look-out point.

No 7: M O'Connell, P Reynolds (Meath), C Browne (Laois) A Rainbow (Kildare).

Choice: O'Connell -- chosen on Team of the Millennium, which says it all.

Nos 8 & 9: L Hayes, G McEntee, J McDermott (Meath), D Earley (Kildare), S O'Hanlon (Louth), C McManus (Offaly), C Whelan (Dublin), R O'Connell (Westmeath).

Choices: Hayes & McEntee -- one of the most enduring partnerships in football history.

No 10: B Rock, A Brogan (Dublin), D Beggy (Meath), J Doyle (Kildare).

Choice: Rock -- Loved on Hill 16, envied beyond. Acknowledged for his star quality everywhere.

No 11: T Dowd, T Giles (Meath), D Farrell (Dublin), J Nevin (Carlow).

Choice: Giles -- elegant, enterprising, entertaining, effective.

No 12: P Barden (Longford), D Dolan (Westmeath), C Duff (Dublin), T Prendergast (Laois).

Choice: Dolan -- top-class finisher, comes with a versatility bonus.

No 13: O Murphy, C O'Rourke (Meath), D Barry (Longford), C Redmond (Dublin).

Choice: O'Rourke -- how Meath could have done with him against Dublin last Sunday at Croke Park.

No 14: B Stafford, G Geraghty (Meath), K O'Brien (Wicklow), J Sherlock (Dublin).

Choice: O'Brien -- one of the best players never to win provincial or All-Ireland honours at senior county level.

No 15: V Claffey (Offaly), B Flynn (Meath), M Forde (Wexford), S White (Louth).

Choice: Flynn -- fetch, turn, kick, score. Made it all look so simple.

GAA Discussion / weather interfering games!
July 24, 2008, 02:40:02 PM
after a lengthy discussion last night... just wondering can anyone think of games (preferably more major ones over the last 20 years) where the weather really did rule the outcome of a game for one team. even for example where one player had to come off for heat exhaustion (unlikely here!) and because of that theyre marker scored to win or some of thoses kind of freak things! thanks

GAA Discussion / Games over August Bank holiday
July 17, 2008, 12:43:01 PM
Are they really going to play some of the qualifier games on Bank holiday Monday?? surely they cant. That would mean that some team would only have 5 or 6 days until the quarter finals.... any thoughts. I think the lay out for qualifiers this year is abit crazy, nothing for weeks then an onslaught of games for a month.......

GAA Discussion / GAA runs my life!!
July 09, 2008, 10:48:19 AM
After just posting on the Meath v Limerick thread I realised how much GAA runs my life, esp from May to September. every Sunday is taken with games which I cannot miss and then trying to organise a holiday around games is immmpossible! esp when we go into the qualifiers. for example I was all set to go away from the 2nd to the 9th August, (have to take that week off in work) until Meath hit the quaifiers. now I wasnt that stupid to book as you never know with the GAA but I had said that was the date we'd go and now I dont have a clue!! If Meath win on 19th we've the next game on the 26th and if we win that then we may be playing on the 2nd 3rd or even 4th August. If we win that then we could be playing on the 9th or 10th, its just so hard to know! my holiday could be 9 days long or 6 days!! of course we could get beaten on the 19th and none of this will matter. anyone else have problems like this?!!!!! Im not really complaining though  ;)  I think its madness having the quarter finals a week after the last of the qualifiers, 7 days for one team, its unfair anyway just thought Id get more opinions on this...

GAA Discussion / Meath vs Limerick
July 01, 2008, 10:49:54 AM
Thought Id get the ball rolling on this one. A few of us going down and staying that night. Any thoughts on a half decent non dangerous place??!
With regards to the game, I would expect we should win this. I know Limerick should have beaten Cork in reality but I think we have a very decent team now and everyone is back bar Reilly so there will be mighty competition within the camp, always good. If we can get a good solid victory from this we can go far in the qualifiers. Any Limerick fans with opinions??

GAA Discussion / O Leary gets the all clear
August 22, 2007, 12:00:13 PM
Well Brian Crowe has cleared O Leary to play for the All-Ireland. Im glad he wont miss out on the most important football day of his life, but he is bloody lucky and how Crowe will be seen as a credible ref after this is beyond me. He re looked at the incident and saw how O Leary flattened Geraghty and deemed that yes that was ok and a yellow card was acceptable  :-\  :-\

GAA Discussion / Meath vs Dublin 17th June
June 05, 2007, 01:29:18 PM
I thought I would start a new thread about the replay where we can talk aboutthe actual upcoming game and not gg etc etc! I hear that the game is def on sunday at 4pm. would it be such a bad idea to have it at 6pm? anyone see any problems. To meath crew, I thought Crawfrd was terrible and chicken sh*t on sunday and hope he is left off the next day. Would like to see Farrell Ward and Bray in ff line with Sherridan Geraghty (depending) and Byrne in half forward line.
