Quote from: ONeill on May 09, 2024, 10:42:52 PMAye was laughing at that.

A lot of the criticisms were coming from people who support men dressed in fancy gowns with mitres on their head, holding croziers, who are part of a murky cult that excludes women and abuse children.

Witchcraft could be on the rise.

I like the performance too. She's getting serious abuse from Mother Ireland on social media (and I don't mean the Palestine situation). Can be a nasty little country couched in religious traditionalism etc

Quote from: Snapchap on May 09, 2024, 07:36:14 AMWell, truthsayer, you say the satanism is just young ones dressing up and having a but if craic, but it is more than that in Bambi Thug's case. She literally self-identifies as a witch.

Some lads here love to think they are awfully progressive and trigger happy smearing other people as narrow minded bigots. Whatever makes you feel good about yourselves. Personally, I think a grown adult actually believing herself to be a witch and running about in plastic horns, chrome nails and covered in body paint looks absolutely f**king ridiculous.

I saw some of the clips of "celebs" arriving at the met gala the other day in the most ridiculous outfits you could imagine. One was a woman wearing a dress that she was wrapped so tight in that she literally couldn't walk into the venue and had to be lifted and carried, upright, by her minders. I thought she looked f**king ridiculous but I suppose she's just really progressive and I'm a closed minded bigot.
I think its all very harmless and if she identifies as a witch so what? Its a bit daft but I doubt that she'll be able to cast spells on people or sacrifice babies to the dark side. We've had punk rockers and goths and all sorts... there's nowt as quare as folk! It's her perogative if she wants to look as u describe 'f*****g ridiculous'. Have you even seen the Bishops in their big hats and cloaks and men kneeling kissing the rings on their hands and them swinging them smoke insense things? Ridiculous?

Jaysis did you read anything I write at all? You're essentially making my argument right back to me. As I already said, yes she might look at me as looking ridiculous for wearing jeans and a
t-shirt and she'd be perfectly entitled to. Just as I can say she looks ridiculous to me.
Fair enough it is hard to make out what you're trying to say. Sounded like you're losing your sh*t bout some young one dresses as a witch or identifying as a witch..
I thought she identified a non binary . Witches are not non binary
I'm not sure.. the sexual identity of witches wouldn't be my strong point...

Quote from: weareros on May 08, 2024, 10:47:26 PMRegarding boycott, Israel are a participant not a direct opponent. They are also participants in Olympics, Euros, club competitions that league of Ireland clubs participate in, that clubs supported by Irish people (Celtic, Liverpool, Man United, etc) participate in.

Why are we only hearing the loudest voices against the Eurovision. How about a bit of pressure on our boxers, golfers, soccer players, runners, rowers...

We know we won't of course.

Do we only put pressure on the transgender queer who at least is very vocal in their support of Palestine. Loved the use of Ogham even if the organisers somehow turned out to be experts in ancient Irish script. Crown the Witch.
You have got me thinking with that one. Very good point, will the Olympians etc get the same abuse going to a competition where Israel are completing?
I kinda like her act. People going on bout Satanism need to feel their superstitious 1930s Irish heads! It's a bitta craic, young ones dressing up ffs!

Caesar Luis Menotti managed Argentina to 1978 World Cup. Abiding memory him on the sideline smoking like a chimney. That was brilliant World Cup and the BBC theme tune stays with you forever.. anytime that World Cup is mentioned.

Quote from: Captain Scarlet on May 03, 2024, 04:39:25 PMIn Gaelic football in general there is always a need to ne seen to want to change it. Change the rules and a good county manager will find a new way to play and negate it.

Change the season, change the format. Even at club level sometimes there is a system that works and then it gets thrown out for no reason, other than to be seen to do something.

I think that the split season has to stay but tweaks and more time needed. At county level the provincials are the biggest issue.

The league tends to be good, and look at all the finals produced somme kind of excitement. In the Provinces Leinster and Munster Finals are going to be terrible. Connacht is tighter but no side is flying.

Ulster is competetive, but then when the teams don't go all the way the provincials are blamed for being so hard to get through...

Also, when it comes to the clubs, the vast majority can start their championship in July when their county side are out anyway. That was a big issue pre split.
A team gets kncoked out in July and yet no serious club games till end of August for no reason...

That's the failure in this. It seemed to have been changed so clubs wudnt be playing championship in the muck of winter but club championship time remained the same. Now for August-September is club league games a very diluted competition compared to county or club championship. Loads county players just head to US for those months... indeed July as most county teams eliminated by start of July

Jimmy record against Harte in championship is 3-0. Harte should have stepped away from Tyrone bout 2010 got left behind by the best coaches then.. cudnt get the better of Kerry, Dublin or Mayo from 2008. No coincidence Tyrone won Sam year after he went. He's not the Messiah!

And as Joe (rightly and constantly) bemoans the likes of Trump, the Tories, Israeli gov't etc for getting the lie out first, because that's the message that'll stick more the actual truth, he does the very same re the GAA.

Even our red hand neighbours would love to see us win Sam the year to see the hooer squirm, yes? Surely  ???
Nope - nor Harte 🤷

(No a dig at anyone just a marketing thing - I haven't listened to this week's one but IMO the Bells are modern day heroes and are just great people so while I have no doubt it will be a bit sad I'll be very interested to listen to them too).
I'd say with the Colin Bell one theres parts that would break your heart but they still manage to have a good laugh in other parts as well, loved the bit about him saying he's meeting lads he played with that are on walking sticks now, sure those are the lads that tracked back and made tackles I didn't bother with that!

Hard to even find superlatives to describe Colin and the service their charity provides tbh, have helped over 1800 families at such a tough time.
I remember Colin won the lotto... not the foundation, for them personally. Everyone was so happy for them. Good people have helped so many families.

Quote from: tiempo on May 02, 2024, 09:51:18 AMThe level of self-agrandising by Tommy Nibs leads me to think he's gone full parody and is only saying 'most powerful yet' on a weekly basis as an in-joke/piss take. Does grate at times, trying to sound nuanced with phrases like 'the modern GAA calendar'

To be fair these are some incredibly powerful human interest stories from ordinary enough GAA people that are extremely life affirming. To give Niblock credit he has created a format where these stories are being told very very well and sympathetically.

While the Wednesday ones are often personal in nature, they almost always demonstrate much of what is good about the GAA's role in the community. The Colin Bell one was particularly good.

Yes, he promotes it very strongly and he has a particular schtick, but it's fairly inoffensive unless you're easily annoyed.
Agree with this. Him and Oisin come across as very genuine and are real grassroots GAA people. The human podcasts have often been very moving. Some excellent podcasts.. Sambo, Hub Hughes, Neil Lennon and plenty of others good craic and stories too... only complaint here is the 'most powerful yet' intros.. sounds a bit shallow at this stage.
