I guess it pretty much sums up the point of the thread. They charge whatever they want and they get away with it. Some say people are paying it so it's grand but what's the alternative - no one has a social life?

I think the likes of uber would surge a lot. You start to read now about taxis lining up at night and bartering with people for fairly large sums for short journeys.

Covid has hit that industry especially as they don't feel they got a lot of funding when they were out of work during that time. Belfast has a lot of people in it but could have a lot more but for the taxi / public transport situation. I think they're attempting late buses now too but I don't think translink have the money for them.

Quote from: Points a Good Score on Today at 10:01:27 AMA very tough week in Moneyglass with more difficult days to follow.

I've been lucky to know Jack McCoy since he was a very young lad, an absolute giant of a man in a wee body. Bravery, skill and endeavour where his best characteristics on the pitch, but off it is where he really excelled, a quick wit and sharp personality, a friend to old and young alike with the ability to interact and converse with both just the same.

Nothing was ever a problem to Jack, we're light in numbers today Jack can you play corner back, no problem, man marking job today Jack, no problem.

An IFC semi final against St Paul's a few years ago epitomised him most, in a game St Paul's looked like winning all the way through Jack never gave up, he contributed scores, blocks and tackles all night, covering 19kms over the 80 minutes a phenomenal effort.

We'll all miss him terribly both on and off the pitch.

There's no problem in this world that can't be solved, speak out and seek help don't suffer in silence like our dear friend.

 :( RIP

Since COVID though it is beyond ridiculous. It used to be tough getting home but now it can be hard even getting out.

Not sure in your two reasons. I could list a few though.

I don't know about anywhere else but Belfast suffers a lot due to a lack of taxis. I have had a lot of bother a good few times getting taxis.

I saw him recently out an about somewhere and wondered the same. It did look like the world was his oyster. He  hosted an event I was at one night years ago and he was some speaker.

Coverage was very good. Niblock's good, Harte a good addition to it and sarah mulkerrins is very good as well. Much better than some of the stuff you would see on RTE.

It's grand - as long as you can avoid getting beaten up  ;D

Monaghan are missing beggan, Kieran hughes is retired, McManus is being used sparingly due to hip issues and a fella is away to Aussie rules I think.

I do think rates in Belfast are extortionate too so that is a factor. I don't think running a pub, especially these days, is as profitable as people think.

Ah yes covid year.

Basically for roscommon, and anyone else, to get to the semi final they need to avoid derry, dublin and kerry in any knock out match. They then probably need to meet someone of comparable level in the knockout to get through. Tyrone, Mayo, Galway, possibly Donegal and Armagh would likely be too much.

Monaghan aren't quite top four but they'd Beggan and McManus there and with McManus especially they always had a chance. They were (not are mind you) closer to top four than Roscommon ever were tbh.

It also depends on your draw but it isn't a failure for Roscommon to not get to a semi final. They're top 8ish. It would take quite a run of luck to get there. It just reads that they're a failure when I don't think they are at all.

I can't recall exactly who Tipp beat to get there for them to merit an asterix...

They're not a top four team is what's stopping them getting to a semi final. They are a decent side tbf to them but just not quite that level. It's not a failure.

I don't think there's around 10 at all. There's probably 8 but if donegal hadn't stepped up there'd be 7.
