Because i heard off Tommy Carr scheduling fitness tests for a provisional panel here in Cavan sometime in November,
Is Gym work exempt from this ruling?

This new ruling claimed its first casuality

Jim Greene says that a number of reasons, including the fact that his side would only have been given three weeks to prepare for their NHL crunch opener with Offaly, contributed to his decision to resign as Carlow hurling manager.

Under new GAA guild lines, inter-county teams are not permitted to train until January 1 and it was this lack of pre-Christmas preparation that made Greene tender his resignation to the Carlow County Board, putting an end to his 12-month stint at the helm of the Barrowsiders.

Greene had never been consulted over the team holiday either, which sees the players fly out to New York on January 5 and return on January 11.

"The first date that we could have had a training session was January 13 and Carlow are due to Play Offaly in their first league match just over three weeks later on February 8," said Greene.

"That's a totally inadequate amount of time in which to prepare a team for such an important, and difficult, match.

"We made a lot of progress in Carlow this year but a lot of the good work would be undone by not being properly prepared for next year's league."

If the Cork Boys get to hear about this they will go on strike for not being allowed to train.  Then they could have the ones who are willing to play under McCarthy go on strike for not being allowed to train and the ones who are not willing to play under McCarthy to stay on strike and Bob' yer Uncle, problem solved, no more Stars and Stripes being waved by the Good Ol' Southern Boys on Hill 16.  Manna - Brilliant idea, implement it immediately.

It prevents collective training so organising things like weights programmes and trials are allowed. I think it's a great idea. Give lads the break they deserve after a long seaso nand let them enjoy their Christmas before they get back to the hectic schedule. Ask Mickey Harte how many collective training sessions they have a week during the league!

Top of the hill

County lads definitely need the break. Especially those at uni. Otherwise they would be training all year round. Even professional sportsmen get a break for a few weeks.

However, how effective it will be remains to be seen. Collective training is not allowed but there are ways round that. In talking to a couple of players from different counties recently it seems managers are planning to have them do some sort of training in smaller groups or pairs.
Can't have them lyin around for the next few weeks then on the drink over Christmas, what sort of shape will they be in for the start of the national league?  ;)
