I stumbled upon this a couple of months ago. Had never heard of it:

Always like to start on the on this day section and see where it takes me. Came across that Armagh rail disaster one on the anniversary of another rail disaster.

The Armagh Rail Disaster was covered by Dan Snow in one of the railway journeys programmes. Will hoke out a link.

I thought it was very good,
It doesnt pull any punches in casting the spotlight on the stepfather as the potential real killer

This accident led to the redesign of brakes to fail safe, i.e. the power keeps the brake off and if the power was removed the brake activated.
There was some question in the recent Lac-Mégantic detailment in Québec as to whether this was the case.

The Armagh-Newry line was also notable for having the longest tunnel in Ireland, yet another Amagh superlative!
