Has the talent pool at underage completely dried up?
Or, as I personally suspect, have we for the best part of the last decade employed two full-time football GDAs who have summarily failed to bring through well-rounded footballers on a consistent basis? I do not understand how our GDAs get their yearly contracts renewed every year with no questions asked. Their role seems vague and incompatible with the needs of our adult teams.

Footballers with natural ability like the Kingstons, Moores, O' Carrolls etc will always come through but even despite their own fine talents, they each have deficits in certain areas. Have they and their likes gotten the coaching they would have received in say Tipperary?

It's perplexing looking at our underage development panels and the lack of consistency and cohesive planning. No defensive blueprint, no basic starting blocks in terms of work rate or graft and then history repeating itself every couple of years with promising teams getting turned over in the hot heat of Championship battle at minor or u21 level.

I know it's easy beat on County Boards and Officials who at the end of the day are volunteers but there's something rotten within Laois GAA. At best it's basic ineptitude; at worst it's wilful negligence.

90+ primary school boys at Cuman na bunscoil trials during the week.

Big take up from few schools in traditional hurling areas who hadn't previously attended. Final panel of 30 to be picked.

Seamus Fitzpatrick was eligible to hurl.

His transfer was definitely refused.

However, he had the right of appeal and that could have taken place as early as last Thursday. I haven't heard if he did appeal or not but I felt it was worth mentioning that maybe there's nothing to see here and this 18 year old was perfectly legal in playing...

Miles off the pace. Physically on a different planet to a decent Limerick side. Hard to be critical because the lads are trying but we just don't have the personnel. We can talk about the few absentees but that shouldn't even begin to soften the harsh reality here. As a Liam McCarthy team; we're as poor as any team I've ever seen, especially at the back. You could  make a case for Cha, Purcell and Rowland, maybe Roddy, as being Liam McCarthy level but after that, i dont think we have any players who'd make that Limerick panel, let alone team.
We'll probably get through the Round Robin but that's our level. It's hard to see us escape a serious hammering in the championship before the end of the summer.

These 6 team divisions are doing us no favours and if there's any prospect of a return to an 8-team League then we need to come out strongly in support of it.

Apologies about my ignorance but is the County Committee made up of club delegates or is it the County Officers as elected at convention?

I'd hope all clubs would vote against this to be honest. These marriages of convenience are bullshit and an insult to other clubs who try and do things the right way...

Great to have ideas coming from the Tipps of this world. Credit to the teachers, especially thosefrom outside Laois.
I'd go easy on the schools too; this seems to be year 1. Let's see how it goes next year....

I don't know how the Kevin Bergin transfer request could be refused seeing as they won't be adjudicated on until next Monday. Clubs had until today to lodge formal, written objections.

Mountrath dry: Brilliant

Mountrath wet: Abysmal

Anyone in Mountrath will tell you the same.

Say what you want about his work rate or application but Donie Kingston was the most talanted footballer on the pitch tonight.

Not forgetting Dwane Palmer who would have had his hands full on a very skilful UCC forward line and Enda Rowland who was by all accounts superb again today.

Fleming is a great lad and a technically sound keeper but Rowland has a far higher ceiling. That's the reason every single underage coach picked him as #1....

I can't see us keeping within 8 of Offaly to be honest...

I think our half-back line will get ripped to shreds.

Looks harsh on Downey.

I'd have him in ahead of Taylor.

Our defenders will have it tough against a quick Kerry forward line but I'd be hopeful our forwards could cause serious trouble at the other end.

Scully far away Ogie?

That's Marty Kavanagh from Carlow I'm afraid.

I presume Mark is still injured. Regardless, he'd only be a fresher and thus ineligible for Fitzgibbon.
