Title: Will he stay or will he go?
Post by: DrinkingHarp on February 08, 2007, 09:57:52 AM
Oisin McConville states this might be his last year according to BBC Northern Ireland.

Is it good for Armagh?

Is it good for the GAA?

A great advert for the GAA, he gave all for club and county.  Who will ever forget his goal in 2002 AIF :) a class act.

Not too many men bounce back from:
- not scoring in 1999 AISF (largely because his father was in ill-health)
- Scoring 1-9 against Kerry in 2000 AISF and still ending up on the losing side
- missing the first half penalty in AIF 2002

to score the all-important goal and walk away with the man of the match award in AIF 2002.

Many got the plaudits, but Óisín got the scores.

No matter what people were saying about him, he always produced. He has a brutal back problem that would have finished many's a footballer.

With him retired and Clarke out, Armaghs odds to retain their Ulster cahmpaionship will surely lengthen, dramatically.

I hope he stays as long as he is healthy enough to contribute to the cause but given his chronic back problems over the years I think this might be it for him at the Inter county level. Oisin has been one of the most important players in our history and if he decided to quit and concentrate on putting in a few years with cross I would say fair play to him, he owes us nothing and we owe him a great deal.

QuoteIts not too often I would praise anyone from the Orange County, but McConville was a class act.

Having become more of a  lurker on the board lately some comments deserve seconding.  There's one above - from 5times of all people! :)
