General discussion / Belfast Giants Ice Hockey

Was at the Belfast Giants ice hockey last night in the odyssey as the woman won tickets:

Pro's

-It was free.
-We had great seats
-We ordered a large fanta, popcorn and large packet of Tayto cheese and onion from the snack stand.  I went to pay for it but the girl behind the counter went and served someone else and never came back to me even though i was standing there with the wallet,  I eventually walked off so free snacks!!!
-They was 3/4 fights in the game
-There is a pizza hut in the oddessy and we had a 50% off voucher which we put to use after the game.
-The oven in pizza hut broke down shortly after we got our feed so a pile of people had to leave without food to which I was able to look smug with my food in front of me
-There where some fit cheerleaders
-They do some good free giveaways, flights, a 6ft sub sandwich!!!, music vouchers etc
-Seen Kirsty from Cool FM for the first time, id probably give her one
-When the game was over, there was plenty of short skirts on show walking about the oddessy
-This song was played everytime the giants scored, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DjGMOAjdQQ.  Great TUNE.

Cons

-Ice hockey is pretty much an abortion of a sport
-Its takes over 2 hours to play an hours match.
-The jerseys are a complete sight!  How many sponsor logo's can fit onto one jersey!!  Also, they only must come in XXL
-Typical American typed sport.  All filler, no killer IMO
-It was easy to miss parts of the game because of what was happening in the crowd, free giveways etc, i actually missed a goal because I was looking at something else.
-There was a stupid man dressed as a subway sandwich going round shaking peoples hands!! WTF!!!
-They was 3/4 fat cheerleaders!!!!???!!!  WTF!!!!
-There was a man who must have been around late 30's on his own at the game going crazy.  He kept talking to a girl beside him who had absolutely no interest in what he was saying!
-The same man indulged in probably the most cringest thing ive ever seen between 2 men.  After the Giants scored, he went to 'high five' the guy in front whilst the guy in front went to do the ole knocking together of closed fist salute (http://static-p4.fotolia.com/jpg/00/04/90/19/400_F_4901987_hVcSFSLtjZHjfAHxK9CZfTNQYQok5a5c.jpg) and in the end up he was just holding his closed fist.  Very cringy.

Overall, I wouldn't ever pay to get tickets to see this again but it passed an evening especially when it was free.  There are genuine fans out there who support the team, I felt a bit out of place not cheering as just couldnt really get into it.  In the end up I sort of was supporting the Nottingham Panthers just so it would disappoint the fanatics around me, I can be like that.

It was pretty funny hearing some man shout behind me though 'get away home er that referee, your a complete joke!!'  Thought I was at a local club game for a minute!

Anyway, GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D brilliant - the same clown called it too. You could see the commentator realising...

Happened to be watching it live and caught it straight away that the clampit had called out the wrong number for the ball he was holding!!!

What a complete useless hoor I thought and began laughing as I knew it was going to cause confusion.  The look of horror of Jackie Fullofhimself face was priceless  :D

Cheers lads, thanks for the help, any information very helpful, back in the gym last few weeks, trying out different exercises and trying to come up with a program that suits me. Thanks again.

Seek a prefessional to do you a program for GAA.

That advise from Dirty Dozen is pure rubbish. End of.

(no offence DD12)

Offence taken.  I was half taking the piss anyway but if you done what i posted it is pretty testing, hard to beat own bodyweight exercises.

Time for a rant though.  Weights, weight programs, core programs, strength & conditioning nowadays are far far to much focused on in my opinion when it comes to the GAA.  Ive only noticed this myself this last 2/3 years.  Is it all really necessary???  You never see anyone asking for programs or ways how they can improve their kicking technique, their tackling, their fielding, their vision, its all how can I improve my strength, power & what a player can bench press nowadays.  It sort of sickens me a wee but the way there is so much emphasis put on it.  I can see in about 10 years the average gaelic footballer will resemble something like a rugby league player nowadays.

At the end of the day, all the weights and programs in the world wont kick the ball over the bar, wont catch the ball, wont make the needed tackle.  Ive seen players bulk up and improve their strength and conditioning and generally look great but when it comes to the match they freeze on the day and all you are left with a perfectly conditioned player who is of no use or substance to the team.

Muscles look good on a beach there.

Its McCloskey!!! Dudey is different weight class.

McCloskey would be smart to take the fight as it would be a big pay day but Khan will beat him easily.

Im not so sure Iceman, I watched all the Khan fight against Maidana and he did fight very well in parts but i thought he was running for around the last 4 rounds.  He was very lucky wasnt knocked out in the 9th or 10th i think it was, done well to stay on his feet in the end up.  I think McCloskey would actually be to smart for Khan, seems to lack it a bit upstairs IMO Khan.  Also, in his last fight he was punching his gloves together above his head like Pacman.....what a parasite I thought, stop copying someone else, that was really annoying me, he done it around 2 or 3 times. >:(

that looks not too bad dortydozen;

what if you are quite bad (absolutely crap) at the pull ups; any substitute exercises??

its not for me its for a friend ahem :-[

LOL, i was half ripping the piss but it is a good swift workout, i done it last night, ive never been so unfit in my life.  Just do as many pull ups as you can or reverse pull ups, ie jump up with your chin above the bar and slowly lower yourslef down to build up until you can do a regular pull up.

That is only week 1 of a 16 week program, below is a good website that i got it off:

http://iwantsixpackabs.com/abs.html

I dont like lifting heavy weights and also dont like spending more than 45 mins in the gym so I find this is a good program if you can stick to it.  Good videos in the link explaining how to do things each wit a week by week breakdown.  Simple but effective exercises.

Only went back to the gym this week myself and started it on Monday and was sore until Thursday!!!  Porbably back to football trainign next month and at this stage im struggling badly!!

I just noticed this thread

mother of god...

What??  Do you know who the mother of God is??  I dont think even Jesus knew that!

A very good one is called 21's although if you're starting from scratch i'd reccommend you start at 11's

Drop and do 21 pressup's
Turn over and do 1 sit up
Turn back and do 20 press ups
Turn over and do 2 sit ups
Turn back and do 19 press ups
Turn over and do 3 sit ups
Turn back and do 18 press ups...you get my drift until you're back to 1 press up and 21 sit ups...

Its a tight one but v good

Sounds tough, hard to beat your own body weight exercises i find.  If you can lift your own body weight, your doing rightly.

No weights required

20 x press ups
20 x squats (with arms out in front of yourself)

30 x lunges (15 x each leg)
20 x pull ups

15 x burpees
45sec plank

Do each 2 excercises as I have laid out as a superset, ie do not rest between press ups and squats.  Do 3 sets of each only reseting between SETS.

Then sit back and watch the 6 pack form.
