Football loses another legend. Loved watching him in the 1980s and was lucky enough to see him in the flesh for Garforth Town a few years ago. He didn't do much that day but you could see that he was a class act. RIP Socrates!

Rich tea biscuits for bait is the best. We had a cat once but it bought more mice into the house than it got rid of.

It's fair enough to say that Tyrone's minor teams haven't been progressing through to the senior team, but we have to acknowledge that that was an exceptional team to break into. Ok, they haven't won the all Ireland in a few years but you are replacing multi all iteland winners here. It would take an exceptional 19 year old to be deemed better than Jordan, Dooher, McGuigan et al. So the progress had been a little slower than perhaps it might have been. Maybe now these young lads will have their chance, they have waited a long time - let's hope they are chomping at the bit to prove they are good enough.

Slightly off topic, I wouldnt for one minute call the actions of anyone commnitting suicide as being selfish but I have to say that it is very unfortuate when their actions cause severe repercussions for a third party. There is a bridge called Scammondon Bridge which crosses the M62 between Leeds and Manchester (nicknamed suicide bridge) and a colleague i used to work with was driving along when a body of a man fell to the ground in front of her and she ran over him in her car. The man died and the impact this had on that poor woman was immense. She was a very friendly, outgoing individual but became very reclusive and took a few weeks off work, which became a few more until eventually we found out that she wasnt coping very well and wouldnt be returning. Her marriage has since broken down and I would really fear for her long term well being. Like i said, i would never say the actions of a suicide victim are selfish but in this case it may have claimed another victim.

So the club championship starts a week before the All Ireland quarter final and ends the week before the All Ireland Final - can you not see a problem with this?

Although I'd fully expect Dromid Pearses to come through against Cuchullainns of Newcastle, I dont think it will be particularly easy for them. I've been involved in GAA in Britain for quite a while and in terms of the Junior Championship, this Cuchullainns team are probablythe best prepared i've seen. They have committed fully to this all year and are immensely fit and strong with a fair few tidy footballers in key positions. Whether or not they are good enough to trouble the Kerry champions remains to be seen, but they are as good, if not better than the John Mitchells team from Liverpool that made the final of this competition a few years ago.

This is shocking news! On the face of it you would think he had it all, successful career, wife, kids, plenty of money. But you just don't know what's going on in a mans head! RIP Gary, a true legend for Wales and Leeds!

It has its own appeal. I'm damned if I know how anybody watches it live at the game though, it's impossible to tell exactly what happened until you've watched at least one replay. I used to find it bewildering until someone actually explained the rules to me.  It has the same appeal as watching a game of chess unfold, and I don't mean that in a disparaging way because I'm a chess fan myself.

Why am I not surprised at this?   :)

GAA Discussion / Re: God to be Fermanagh's miracle?
November 22, 2011, 04:10:32 PM
I think this is a great appointment for both Peter and Fermanagh. For Peter he is taking over a team with potential and possibily at the the lowest ebb they have been in many years. Any move forward is progress and if the stay away players from last year re-join then there is every chance that Fermanagh could cause a few upsets in the year ahead.

I would be very, very surprised if Peter walked into this job without knowing wether or not these players would return and sounding out people like Barry Owens. Peter is no mug and wouldnt have touched this job with a barge pole had he not been given assurances that this dispute would be resolved.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out - all of a sudden the Ulster championship has a bit more of a spice about it.

I hope with all this confusion that nobody books their hotel room for the wrong weekend for the All Ireland!

Great performance by Kauto Star, wonder is it a final kick or could he push on from this? Long Run had a decent enough run in behind!
